I just had a strange thought, what if on an old CD based system with long load times such as a Neo Geo CD, what if you put a more powerful motor to spin the disc faster inside and swapped out the old one. Would that make load times go faster if the drive was faster? Because I know some computers have CD drive at like 48x versus an old one that's like 2x.
It's not something I would probably do, but just a thought I had for discussion. I know nothing about the finer details of stuff like that works.

Re: CD motor thingy question
AFAIK, that wouldn't work. Even if the motor spins faster, the drive controller board won't know to read the disc at the higher speed. The data from the laser wouldn't be in sync and none of your discs would read at all.
Now, if you could find some other compatible drive controller, maybe you could improve load times that way, but I'm sure there would be some compatibility issues.

Yeah, I didn't think so. Oh well. Loading times do have their benefits, you could make a sandwich or a hot pocket or something

Re: CD motor thingy question
You could try to overclock the system and decrease load time by 3-5 seconds
PSone, Xbox, PS2, DC, SS Mod Service, PM for details
