Nintendo DSi Won't Turn On, No Lights, No Power, Nothing

Post by christoph »

I have a DSi that is in great shape, but it won't power up. The lights don't come on with battery in, wall charger plugged in, without battery in and wall charger plugged in. Tried wiggling, moving, every trick in the book. Nothing happens, no sign of anything.

I opened it up, tested the battery fuse, as well as the fuse on the motherboard - they both are working 100%.

Anyone know of anything else to check? Everything in here looks like new, no water damage or cables unlodged etc.

One question: Do you need a working battery to turn this on even if you are using a wall charge? I would think no, but I read somewhere that you needed to have a battery to complete the circuit? I know this DSi was sitting for like 6 months so I'm sure the battery is dead. Would this not allow me to turn it on even though I am plugging it directly into power with the wall charger?

EDIT: I checked the voltage on the battery and it reads 2.4v

A DSi battery is supposed to put out 3.7 volts so perhaps that is your problem? I suggest finding a friend with a DSi and swapping out the battery to test.

EDIT: take a look at Nintendo's website:

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/system ... charge.jsp

Do you get any LEDs turn on when using the wall charger? Nintendo seems to indicate that you should be able to use your system with a dead battery and wall charger plugged in. If you can't, they say that it will need to be repaired.

In the troubleshooting section of the site is where I found the info:

Nintendo Support wrote: System won't turn on
If you are not able to turn the system on, please review the following:

The power button was designed to be somewhat difficult to press down to help prevent accidentally shutting the system off during use. Make sure you are pressing down with enough pressure.
It's possible the rechargeable battery has been depleted. Try using the Nintendo DSi while the AC Adapter is plugged into the system and a working outlet (how to).
If you are not able to power on the system after plugging it into the AC Adapter, then it appears the system may need to be repaired. Please click here for repair information.

Ah nice, thanks for that gtmtnbiker. So I guess that rules it out. I was only able to find one fuse on the front of the board, F1, and then the battery fuse. I think there might be another fuse. Anyone have any idea or any advice on what else could be wrong?

Yesterday, I had a problem with my XL. It was working fine earlier in the morning but it wouldn't turn on. No lights. I plugged in the chargers and again, it wouldn't turn on. The orange light was flashing which indicates that the battery was not connected properly.

So I opened the battery compartment and pushed on the battery. No effect. I took the battery out and put it back in again. Now it's working fine.

Anyway, this doesn't help with your situation but I wanted to share my experience.
