PlayStation Import Problem

Post by ProfessorK »

So in the mail today I got my copy of RockMan Complete Works: RockMan 3. I don't know who modded my PlayStation or what they did to it (I opened it and didn't see anything different) but up until today it's played US and JPN games fine. It still runs my copies of King of Fighters '99 and DragonBall Final Bout, but when I try to play RockMan I get this screen:

Anyone know what this means?

Probably detected the mod chip. No worries, nothing got bricked.
Oh and you don't need to call the number.

Darn. I didn't know that could happen (kind of new to modding/ using modded hardware). So is the only way I'm going to play this on an actual JPN system?

I tried taking it out after the first time. Then I tried it with a non-dualshock controller.

I think almost all controllers/peripherals are universal... Could be wrong though. I'm not too familiar with Sony importing.

I don't have this particular game, but all my other imports work fine on my seven wire mod chip. If you have the older four wire mod chip probably why it got detected.

Which model number do you own? If the cart port connector version you could go with the cheat cart with spring. Not sure if it will work on that game though.

My system is a SCPH-7001. I'm not sure where the mod chip is or what kind it is...

Congratulations! You have what I consider the best model. It has both the visual soundscope CD player and the cart port. The add on mod chip is usually hanging off by itself with wires snaking back to various parts of the main board. Be careful, some of those soldered wires may pop off. I wouldn't even attempt removing the PCB unless you plan on soldering in a seven wire mod chip replacement.

If that is the only game that doesn't work, you have to weigh the soldering involved vs damaging the PCB. Maybe get one of those carts?

use a classic ps1 controller and see what happens!

Then try a Dual shock controller.

I own an original JP playstation.

I got that screen (or something similar) once with my JP copy of Metal Gear Solid. I had an original controller. When I used the dualshock controller, it worked okay!

so just switch out controllers and see if that helps
