Hi,I dont know if its in the right place or not, part of the topic of this thread came from the "How do you feel about expensive ports"-thread,part of it is of my own experiences
Today, for the first time in a long time, i checked Marktplaats (Dutch Ebay-sort of),and i was looking for DKC1 or DKC2,and what striked me the most, was the big increase of prices for them, people wanting (and fixing the bid) on €20 for a loose cartridge and even higher (more then €30) for a CIB game
also, the original GB games have skyrocketed in terms of prices, people sometimes wanting €15 for a loose(and sometimes not even working) Pokemon R/B/Y/G/S/C game cartridge
has anyone else noticed this increase on price?

Supply & Demand buddy. Retro gaming seems to be pretty popular right now and lots of retro games simply aren't made anymore. The PSN, XBOXLA and WiiVC downloads do seem to help lower the prices of physical copies though.
I stand by games are only worth as much as whoever wants it is willing to pay for it. If I really really want a game I might pay higher internet prices, but if I just want to try it out I'll wait to come across it in a flea market or yard sale.

Generally speaking, games will lose value over time, but there are a few exceptions:Flodder450 wrote:Hi,I dont know if its in the right place or not, part of the topic of this thread came from the "How do you feel about expensive ports"-thread,part of it is of my own experiences

- If the game is very rare, very good, or both, it's value could increase over time.
- If there is a new release in a game series, all of the older titles in the series will see a temporary surge in demand, therefore increasing the value along with it. For example, Donkey Kong, like you mentioned.
If you give it some time, the Donkey Kong games should go back down in price. I bet Kirby games also went up in price due to the recently released Kirby's Epic Yarn. I noticed that old Mario games went up in price thanks to the 25th anniversary of Super Mario.

This. I feel this is especially true for Donkey Kong County as there hasn't been a new game in a long time. The release of DKC Returns probably triggered a big nostalgia rush for a number of people.Inazuma wrote:If there is a new release in a game series, all of the older titles in the series will see a temporary surge in demand, therefore increasing the value along with it. Yes, confirming most points made already and adding this.
The "classics" (mario, zelda, DK, etc) will allows separate from the pack (upward) and the filler will continue to gravitate toward the bottom.
Then you have your "rares", games that had low sales initially and found cult followings, or games that were released at the end of a system.
You always have new gamers to new consoles, for example, I still have never played a pokemon game on anything older than GBA, so at some point I will want Pokemon Yellow for the first time - but I won't want the filler stuff. Supply/Demand.
A perfect example of a console this is happening to right now is the N64.
Last year the lesser games (filler) were in the $3-4 range, the Mario stuff in the $10-15 range, and the "rares/cult classics" in the $30 range.
Now, a year later, the filler stuff is $1-3, the mario/zelda stuff $15-25, and the rares/cult classics like Sculpters Cut and Conkers have gone from $30-35 to $40-50.
You will always see this separation as a console library ages, it is fairly consistent.

I actually wanna see if the release of Radiant Silvergun will affect the price of the physical copies of the game.Czernobog wrote:Supply & Demand buddy. I don't think there'll be that much of a drop as there are a lot of people who want the game simply as a collection showpiece.

It's been known for awhile now that RS was coming out on Live and it hasn't affected amazon/ebay/trade values at all.Croooow! wrote:http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27346pakopako wrote:I actually wanna see if the release of Radiant Silvergun will affect the price of the physical copies of the game.

Ikaruga for DC hasn't gone down despite the availability of the GC version for $20 or less, it's still solidly in the $50-60 range.
You can get Metal Slug anthology (6 games) for wii for under $15, yet individual copies of NG or SAT games sell for twice that. Collectors will always want the truest version they remember and to play it with the controllers they remember.

Re: Increase of prices for retro games (NES-Gamecube)
Many NES games seems to be steamrolling in value now too, which is a bit depressing. I was looking to pick up Fire N Ice about three months and saw that values were holding steady at about $50. I checked today and prices are roughly 75-100$. Of course, this is Ebay I'm searching on, but still...
