What do you guys think? Will it live up to THAT E3 video?
Having seen how Motorstom turned out from that E3 video I think I Killzone will look great but not as good as that video!
Will Killzone 2 live up to expectations?

It could work out great, but I think that it is impossible at the moment for the game to look like the E3 video. Literally impossible. Just look at Lair. It looks amazing. It has a superb engine. Everything is tailored to the specifications of the PS3. But it doesn't look close to the quality of the KZ2 E3 vid. I truly think Sony messed up big time by using those pre-rendered videos...I mean, Motorstorm honestly doesn't look all that great. It has the real-time mud physics, which is great, but they do not perform close to how they performed in the E3 video. That, and the game pretty much lacked content for a $60 release; even a $50 release would be asking too much. That's for another topic though! Low quality textures also seem to be a problem I see with a lot of PS3 games...they aren't horribly low quality, but they could be better for a system hyped in the same manner as Daikatana. Lol, they kindof turned out similar, didn't they?

Lol, I've seen it and I still don't think the orchestration aspects are right. That, and I think the graphics are only 90% of the video. If you look closely with only a videophile mindset, you'll see that the framerate is drastically lower and that the textures are also of lower resolution. The effects aren't nearly as nice either. I'm not saying this because the 360 could do what the video displayed, I'm not really sure (though it prolly could handle higher res textures), but I still don't think it's "done the impossible", as you said. Then again, KillZone was just some attempted halokiller in my eyes. I personally would rather play COD4.
And, something that really doesn't have to do with the graphics or w/e, but is it just me, or are all the characters in Kill Zone 2 really ugly? It's like SCEE modeled them all from old bad British Television.
I'm also seeing ridiculous motion blur on the gun too. It's present on the original video, but not so crazy. They're probably doing that copying the roady run effect from GoW and to cover up somewhat nasty gun, textures me thinks.

I feel fairly optimistic that it'll turn out pretty good. The first Killzone was really enjoyable (despite its bugs) and from what I understand, Killzone Liberation is downright excellent.
My main concerns are if the AI is going to be up to snuff (Killzone's AI randomly flipped between excellent and dogshit and Shellshock Nam '67 apparently wasn't far behind) and if it'll be riddled with bugs (something that's also plagued Guerrilla's other titles). Sounds like they're being given ample time to work on it, so let's hope they make the most of it.
Killzone was a game I thought was completely underrated because everyone went in with fudged expectations. The framerate took a while to adjust to, but the mission designs (generally) were excellent and did a great job of taking scenarios and ideas from pretty much every major conflict of the 20th century and giving 'em a nice futuristic make over (WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, you name it). The ability to play through multiple paths in various missions was also extremely cool. Storyline was a bit hokey at points, but it served its purpose well enough.
It's just a shame that the framerate killed the experience for most people while the multiplayer suffered because of the format (patches had to be saved to your memory card, cheaters were rampant) in addition to matches just being too darn large for the maps. The bugs, both game breaking (door not opening after the beach assault) and quirky/annoying (see below) didn't much help either. Aside from the amphibious landing defense bug that necessitated me having to play back through a mission, the biggest bug I encountered was related to the fact that your teammates never died (see, some people did learn from Daikatana's mistakes!). On the mission where you have to blow the bridge, one of my teammates' AI went haywire and she was stuck on the bridge when it went up. For the rest of the mission, I was stuck listening to her yell, "FALLING BACK!" and "...FALLING! ...FALLING!". That was interesting.
tl;dr - Fuck, I really want Killzone 2 to rock.

No doubt, that's the smart way to play it. I got Killzone in a trade (spare unopened Katamari Damacy for a spare unopened Killzone before the GH price drop) and had a positive experience with it. I imagine if I'd spent $50+ on it then I might have been less forgiving towards its faults. There's not much of a chance of me spending $60 on the new stuff... the markup has pushed me towards looking at signing up for a GameFly account at some point. Still working through a bitch of a backlog. Damn cheap PS2/Xbox/GC games.metaleggman wrote:I hope it does too. Since in ten years when the PS3 is about to get replaced, I can hopefully get some good games and a PS3 at a bargain price.

Lol, I've been trying to catch up on GCN, PS2, and GBA titles I haven't bought yet. Everything is still pretty expensive where I live tho...roushimsx wrote:No doubt, that's the smart way to play it. It's another game full of chunky soilders grunting to each other while fighting in the middle of a generic war zone that's almost comepletly lacking in colour. At least Halo has some colour, but I suppose it's a style choice. Fierst Person Shooters have become the scrolling beat em up of this era, they all look alike and play alike to me.
