I have these.

Fatal Fury Battle Archives Volume 1
Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Vol. 2
King of Fighters Collection, The: The Orochi Saga
King of Fighters XI, The
Metal Slug Anthology
NeoGeo Battle Coliseum
Samurai Shodown Anthology
SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1
World Heroes Anthology

I know there are more KoF games, but not sure what else there might be (in the US, anyway).

Also -- for Together Retro -- should I get The KOF Collection that has 98 on it for PS2, or should I go with that expanded KOF 98 release for PS2?

You mean ports or collections?

There are a lot of SNK games on the PS2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SN ... ystation_2

Not all of them are Neo Geo games (some newer arcade releases are on Atomiswave), but I'm sure you can sort them out.

Neo Geo Battle Coliseum is a weird game. The 1 player game really sucks. It's a quasi "survival" game, and not at all like the regular 2 player game. I can't remember if you can just choose a standard versus game and let the CPU be the second player or not.

The PS2 port also has awful loading times. Compare it to other titles like KOF XI where the loading times aren't too bad at all, and you have to wonder how they screwed it up.

Wow. I had never even heard of "Metal Slug 3D!" Interesting.

I guess it didn't receive very good reviews. But I don't think it looks half bad. *shrug*

Most if these have 480p options.
Make sure you also activate 480p playing on a ps3!

Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, meh. not super great. get it to satisfy your curiousity, but you probably won´t play it that much.

There´s also Sengoku Anthology released only in....wait for it.....France!

*bump*

I have a couple Neo Geo collections for PS2 and think they're pretty great. But when I start reading things online, I hear people complaining about how SNK Arcade Classics vol. 1 is buggy or that the Japanese release of The King of Fighters is different from the American release.

Can anyone tell me what releases should be avoided? Or are they all good and maybe some fans are just exceedingly nitpicky? (I don't have a Wii so I can't opt for any of those versions.)

I have

NeoGeo Battle Coliseum - Average game, not very well polished or innovative. Has a lot of cool characters though.

King of Fighters 06 - Another ok game, I used to think it was really lame, but after having some intense battles with a friend I grew to like it. The dub is terrible as usual in fighters.

King of Fighters Xi - One of my favorite games, I love the fast pace spin on the KOF series.
