Super Mario Brothers Versus Arcade...worth getting?

Post by Cov238 »

Found a Super Mario Bros versus arcade cabinet. Never actually seen one for sale. Actually worth picking up? The levels are different a bit from the NES but nothing much different other then that right? So for 300 is it worth considering?

Well if you just wanna check out the differences you can emulate it, but $300 isn't a terrible price for an arcade cabinet provided it's in good condition. If you have the room for it, and it's something you and friends would crowd around and have some fun, I'd say it's worth picking up. Though I'm not up with arcade cabinet prices.

Its worth it. I sold mine a couple of years back. I got $500 out of it. I also had Street fighter 2, and sold that also for $500. I built a mame cabinet and loaded it with Super Mario Bros, Street fighter 2 and couple of thousand more games. Saved me some room in my bar. I would caution, like any other game, you will get tired of it after awhile. And also get tired of moving it. Best of luck.

It's more novel to own an arcade if you have a nice room to put it in (bar, game room, etc) than worry about getting tired of playing it. If I came across a classic arcade locally for cheap, I would definitely pick it up. I wouldn't play on it much by myself, but it'd definitely be something nice to have when friends are over.

This is what I plan to do. I had the JAMMA board for Mortal Kombat II and was gonna build a cab for it, but decided to build a MAME cab instead for space reasons. If I ever get the extra money to build it, that's another story. It'll definitely be a fun project when the time arrives, that much is for sure.

But whatever you do, please don't MAME a perfectly good classic cabinet. If you must MAME do it to an empty game.

Yeah, buying it does seem to be a the more expensive decision when I could just emulate or play a cartridge. It's the joy of owning the cabinet though. I do want to have a MAME cabinet but there's nothing quite like owning the genuine cabinet.
