How easy is it to play imports on PS2?
Just curious -- what are the methods to play (legit) imports on a PS2?

I use Swap Magic discs on my slim PS2 and they work flawlessly.

I don't know if they work for backups. I use them for import shmups with no problems.noiseredux wrote:that works for actual imports -- not just backups?dsheinem wrote:I use Swap Magic discs on my slim PS2 and they work flawlessly.
You really are pondering a PS2 aren't you!

I'm just thinking.
so I'm really lost on swap-magic. When I had my last PS2 I used a Free McBoot for homebrew, but that was it. So like how do you "get" a swap-magic disc or whatever? (I assume your PS2 is not modded?)

My PS2 is not modded. I also have Free McBoot (for emulators and media mostly), but it doesn't allow you to play imports (at least not easily). You have to buy Swap Magic, as the PS2 needs to see you have a real disc in.noiseredux wrote:I'm just thinking.

Swap Magic will work for imports perfectly. Easiest way to use it would be with a PS2 slim (no slide tool mess, just swap with flip top similar to ps1.) You can buy a swap magic disc online pretty easily...hopefully someone else can point you to a good retailer as I haven't dealt with that scene in forever.noiseredux wrote:I'm just thinking.

so dsh, on yr slim you can just lift the lid -- you didn't have to mod the case or anything? Where did you get yr swap magic? Is it expensive?
ps, forgot about movies! Used to watch all kinds of out of print horror on my Free McBoot USB drive.

I did a very simple "hack" to make the lid a flip top:

Swap Magic was under $40 shipped for a DVD and a CD.

This damn thread is reminding me that I want to get Ibara soon....
