There was a thread around the time that Tatsunoko vs Capcom was released on the Capcom Unity forums where Capcom staff asked the general public their opinions on what the next vs franchise should be (this was well before the MvC3 announcement).

I personally voted for Capcom vs Rankin Bass (Thundercats, Tigersharks, Silverhawks).

They also made all those puppet Christmas Specials. That would certainly help fill the void of Holiday themed games.
