I've been bitten by the LaserDisc bug!

Post by ApolloBoy »

I'd been contemplating getting into LaserDisc collecting for a few years now, but it wasn't until today that I actually picked up a few. Here's my measly LD collection so far:

Burn Up W #1
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water #1
Project A-Ko Final (Japanese)
Star Trek II
Star Wars: A New Hope (1995 rerelease)

So who else out there is into LDs?

I used to see them constantly, but they are getting harder to find!

If you go fleamartket shopping or thrift store hunting, you may find some mixed in with old LP records.

Laser discs kinda died in the mid 90's (dvds took over) so you have to think 90's for movies! No new movies anymore

I have never seen anime on laser disc. So I take it that it is even rarer!

I just purchased a laserdisc player last year from half price books (best store in the world for old movies, games, and comics) for $ 30 and got some great laserdiscs for a few dollars each. My collection so far...

The complete star trek annimated series
The original star wars trilogy special edition (still sealed, not opening that bad boy up)
Max headroom
The flinstones movie from the early 90's
Independence day
wall street

Most laserdiscs there retail for less than 5 bucks each, some as low as one dollar. I'm trying to get captain america from 1993 even though it sucked big time.

Start collecting now because they are getting harder and harder to find. Happy hunting

I know for a fact you can find stuff like Tenchi Muyo on laserdisc. Not a very big selection out there but there IS anime on laserdisc.

My collection, LDDB is a great site if you have not listed yours.

I still rock the Pioneer v4200 I got off a college when they unloaded them. Can't beat free.

In my area, owning a LD meant you where into anime. Region free, son.

I have about 30 of those skipping monsters too. Some video never released on DVD. A novelty for the collector.

First time I changed sides with the CED sleeve, all the wife said was "That is ridiculous."

I found a number of those at one of the Goodwills near me. I actually bought a few (Alien, Friday the 13th and Rodan) and gave them to my brother since they were some of his favorite movies. I'm thinking he might have them framed one of these days, I'm not sure.

There's a local shop near me that always has tons of Laser Discs and CEDs for about 3 to 10 USD depending on if it's Criterion Collection or nicely packaged, etc. I've always been interested in them but haven't picked any up yet because I have yet to find a reasonably priced CED or LD player.
