Hello,
I need advice to organize my DVD's, I bought a bunch of loose dvd's that will take a lifetime to watch, and after reading on the internet that storing cd/dvd in plastic cases hurts them over time causing "cd rot" , due to something called PVC.
Can you please provide tips on this?
I got like 200 DVD's
I don't think a CD case is the solution here, or shall I rethink that?
I got some nylon CD cases/slip in, that can store 1 DVD on each side and the layer in between will be something like cotton/fabric.
I am not sure if you knew which ones I am talking about

Re: Help with DVD's storage
Honestly i would keep them in the original boxes. CD rot is a very strange thing, it appears to be caused by something then after 3 years everyone gets it from something else. My theory is that it just happens over time and PVC in the cases will have a negligable effect if any on it. But then as i said, CD rot is really odd.

You mean that my mishandled, beaten up, thrown around, shat upon DVDs won't have such a long life?Bradtemple87 wrote:I think proper handling is the key to long dvd lifeDakinggamer87 wrote:I have also kept all my DVD's in the original cases in a media storage unit and have had no problems with my discs.Bradtemple87 wrote:I have a spinning tower and entertainment center with well over 500 dvds. Loose, as in disc only? No cases?kingmohd84 wrote:I bought a bunch of loose dvd's
Re: Help with DVD's storage
I keep all of mine in paper sleeves stored in the little cd boxes by alphabetical order. I haven't run into a problem yet with any of them.

Kingmohd, the PVC being referred to is not the ORIGINAL cases, it's for the plastic used in CERTAIN cd/dvd wallets.
It will say on the tag if it contains PVC or Vinyl. If not, you're good to go.
