Game lags, how may I fix it?

Post by Erik_Twice »

So, Team Fortress 2 is one of my favourite games of all time and happily played it everyday.

Unfortunatedly when the second Halloween update was released the game started to run pretty badly. Given how I was playing on the special version of a map I thought that probably the bad optimization of such was to blame. It was not due to bad optimization, the game still runs badly even now.

Lowering the graphical settings doesn't seem to help but I can't really say as I'm very untrained right now.

If someone knows how to display FPS on the screen or how to help I would be really thankful.

You should be able to tell whenever the game runs smooth and when it doesn't... However xfire will display fps on screen if you need it to.

This is in Steam, correct?

Right click on the game title and choose "Properties". In the Properties window, select the "Local Files" tab. Click on the button that says "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..."

This will make sure that all of your files are in place and working correctly for the game. If not, it will download what is needed and fix it up. I'm guessing you have some corrupt file or something since the game was working before the Halloween update.

Your post led me to the answer. I defragmentated the files and now it runs smoothly again, thanks!

And thanks everyone who helped =D
