Does Prototype use parkour?

Post by Veno »

Pretty sure many of you have played the game already. My friend came over while I was playing Prototype, and I told him even if he didn't like the game, he should at least like the parkour.

We then went on to have an argument, with him saying it doesn't use parkour, me saying it is parkour, just to a superhuman level.

The definition of parkour is getting from one point to another while defying obstacles that stand in your path, or something close to that.

So, do you guys think Prototype uses parkour? My friend also kept comparing it to AC2, saying it has more grace, and while I say that's true, I say they both use a form of parkour, with AC2 being more realistic.

By that definition, wouldn't Mario Bros. use parkour?

Pretty sure the only game that really uses parkour is Mirror's Edge.

Well seeing how neither of you guys do parkour, I'm not sure how either of you really would know

Seriously though, I don't know. However, I remember wikipedia making a distinction between parkour and freerunning.

Slight off topic, whose a John Morrison fan? For you WWE wrestling fans he supposedly does parkour in his free time. He had an awesome match on last night's pay per view

No, I wouldnt consider it parkour.

Its funny that you mention Assassins Creed 2 as a "realistic" of parkour because, in my mind, thats what MAKES parkour what it is. If it isn't somewhat based in reality, then parkour loses all its charm. Free running is amazing because you're looking at a person do something that you almost never would have thought humanly possible.

When you throw Super Human abilities into the mix, ala prototype, spider-man, infamous, the incredible hulk, while fun to just thrash around a city, it loses a lot of the magic of parkour.
