I thought this was the best forum to post this article.

Not too sure what to think of this game. I understand everyone's poor taste arguement, but there are things that already exist in this world that are far worse.
People tend to sit WWII up on some pedestal as an example for human rights. Meanwhile there are concentration camps that are just as horrific happening right now in N. Korea and other areas of the world. Instead people are worried about a video game referencing an event that happened over 60 years ago. An event that people said would "never happen again".
To me, looks like a good game. Actually, looks like another sequel to Wolfenstein. It's not any worse than some obscure hyper-violent movie out on the market. If these people are bent out of shape over this - have them watch SALO. Now is f-ed up. Bottom line... it's a video game. It's not cathartic or sick, - it's a FANTASY! Everyone should go do something productive for human rights instead of complaining. The world will not change for the better if people don't play this video game.
BTW - This is coming from a person with family who survived / were killed in the holocaust.

That actually looks pretty damn fun, like doom. I don't really see how it is offensive. You play a Jew killing Nazis, not Nazis killing Jews.
Re: Is bloody Auschwitz escape game cathartic or sick?
I'm offended by the fact there are people who get offended over this kind of stuff. People who get offended over art, games, etc, have a much worse affect on society than any work of art possibly could.

Holy Crap! This game looks sweet. If there's offensive stuff in this game then there's offensive stuff in modern shooters.

Not really sure how it's different from hellish FPS games that already exist, except that it's rooted in actual history.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I think people making a form of entertainment from the deaths of millions of people is shameful and its obvious these people have no class or respect for anyone. Its also obvious this game was developed for one purpose, these idiots are looking for attention thats it.
Re: Is bloody Auschwitz escape game cathartic or sick?
Then how do you feel about all WW2 games? Even the ones that let you play as the "good guys"? 70 million people died any way you look at it. Is that not, to you, the profit and glorification of death enshrined in an entertainment medium?corn619 wrote:I think people making a form of entertainment from the deaths of millions of people is shameful and its obvious these people have no class or respect for anyone. But this isn't a fantasy, it's based on an actual uprising in Auschwitz, one that I had never heard of before I saw a trailer for the game. One of the things I like about WWII FPS (or war-based FPS in general) is that sometimes game developers will include aspects or events from history that I didn't know about, such as the incorporation of Flakturme in Medal of Honor: Airborne.fvgazi wrote:It's not cathartic or sick, - it's a FANTASY! Now yes, this is a fantasy-based depiction of Auschwitz and the horrors contained therein. But one of the strengths of a video game is that it can be used in such a way as to allow people to experience things they (hopefully in this case) never will in real life, or show them things they would normally ignore in the world, such as the continued existence of concentration camps. And it is my hope that people will look at these things and never allow them to happen again.
Personally, my biggest problem with the game is the number of commenters who posted about how terrible the graphics look on the page for its trailer at YouTube.
Re: Is bloody Auschwitz escape game cathartic or sick?
If you noticed in my post I didn't single out this game. And I do feel this way about any game that depicts the death, torture and genocide of real people that were innocent. Maybe its my morales and the way I was raised, but its just how I feel.saturnfan wrote:Then how do you feel about all WW2 games?
