Recommend a DS game for my daughter

Post by joehero »

She's 11 years old and not into gaming much. I bought her a DSI last christmas and she loved the new super mario game. She even completed it, with some of my help. I would like to pick her up another game this year that may be similar yet easy enough for her level of gaming. It doesnt necessarily have to be girl oriented, like Barbie or Mama Cooking. Just a good, easy, game similar to NSMB. Thanks!

Soul Bubbles - fantastic puzzle/action adventure game with charming graphics and a good difficulty curve. Here's a great thread on NeoGAF that explains the game;

And, no, not because it's a girl game. It's actually badass, cool premise, and not hard at all. It's basically the same as mario, but a fresh new take on the series (in terms of plot at least).

The only problem is it's hard to find, so it sells for around 30 on ebay, but if you're pressed for time, I'd call around at some game stores or look at best buy... I haven't seen it in stores, but then again, I wasn't looking for it either. But it sound like a game your daughter would enjoy... Definitely wouldn't be too hard for someone that age, but not so easy that it's boring, either.

wasn't it re-pressed and restocked at Toys R Us this year? Should be slightly easier to find now.

My girls are 10 & 7 and these are some of the DS games they have and like:

New Super Mario Bros DS
Puzzle Quest
Dragon Quest - Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Dragon Quest - Rocket Slime
Picross 3D
Pokemon - all of them
Harvest Moon - Grand Bazaar
Mario & Luigi - Bowser Inside Story

Right now, they have been playing Harvest Moon a lot.

I'm shocked I haven't seen Legendary Starfy mentioned yet. That's a great game that the whole family can enjoy. It's almost like a blending of the Mario games and Kirby games. It's a very kid friendly game with great dialogue, and is somewhat of a challenge if you want to try and get all outfits/treasure chests, etc. I couldn't recommend it enough for children, hell even my 62 year old grandmother enjoys it.
Collects promo gaming stuff, certain import games, hockey memorabilia, and other oddball things. (sig and avy under construction)

Depends on how she is. If video games don't catch her attention, I think puzzle games are the best. I remember how people who were not gamers used to buy Game Boys just to play tetris.
Thanks everyone...

Tried Pokemon yet? Easy enough for an 8 year old, but rewarding for any age. It's not a platformer, but it's a great introduction to RPGs.
