Got a SNES for Christmas, Ended Up Spending Over 50 On It

Post by Mendoza »

Yeah, got a model 1 SNES as an early Christmas gift.

Came with one controller Super Mario World and Super Mario RPG.

I thought wow, what a great gift to give. This person just saved me a bundle.

Then i started to buy some stuff for it for when i go to my friend's house for the holidays, he was a genesis kid so he never got to play much snes.

I ended up spending about the same that i would to buy a system

S-video cable

Games (Killer Instinct, Power Rangers, Mario All Stars, NBA Jam TE, and Donkey Kong country)

Cleaning Kit

Extra Controller.

The thing was none of it seemed all that expensive when i bought it, but man did it add up fast.

Any of you guys ever done this?

Similar. My girlfriend was wishing for a Gamecube. I think to myself, "cool, I can get one of those for $30, and grab a cheap game I know she'll like."

So I went to a couple of game stores looking for Cube games, and I found some cheap games for her, and some for myself. Several cheap games later, I found I've spent $100. All in all it's not bad for what I got out of it, though.

Yeah, none of it seems expensive at first. But then you have a stack of games and you dont know why you went over budget by say 30 bucks.

Thats why i have to be careful when i got to a retro store like Movie Trading Company.

When it comes to Super Nintendo, there is no such thing as a budget.

I think both ways are correct.

I actually just did this recently. Won an auction for 24$ and got a Genesis model 2 with all cords and a controller and rocket knight, toejam and earl, sonic 1 and s&k and a few others. At first I thought "well, this is good enough". Before I knew it I was 90$ in the hole because of Gunstar Heroes and a few other games as well as an extra controller.

Gunstar is always worth it though.

Many worse ways to spend $50~ ;)
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Last Friday I spent 125 on my NES collection but I ended up getting Duck Tales 2, Dragon Warrior 1,2, and 4. Two days ago I spent 3 dollars and got Shining force for Genesis in excellent condition from someone who obviously didn't know too much about it, then I got Pac-Man for intellivision for 20 bucks complete in the box. Yes it adds up very fast when you're thinking about getting great deals.

Splatterhouse comes to mind.

But yeah, sometimes what it takes for me to get off my duff is to get have someone get me something to get me going. I think that makes sense - like getting the SNES, that got you going. My girl got me a PSP earlier this year and that got me to go out and get some of the better RPG's for it.
