Neo Geo Multicart - New Neo Geo owner need some advice

Post by Cov238 »

Hey guys

Just got a 4 slot Neo Geo mvs. Pretty sweet.

As far as Multicarts go, I like having original games but having the multicart seems like a smart move as well to save money.

My question then is which cart to get and how? I found this website that has a 150 in 1 cart but I can't find any reviews on it. Also is the site reliable?

Thanks alot and I'll post pics of the cab soon!!

Yes Jamma Boards is a good site. Ive got the 100 in 1 cart and I use it in my Super Neo 29 Candy Cab. Ive also gotten some other things from them. I really need to get the 150 in 1. The games play the same from what I can tell, although many of the games are repeated just different hacked versions of the games with extra characters added in. You can switch the difficulties, you have to use the service button on your cab and go into the settings for each game but it will take forever to set them all to Difficuly Level 4, which is what MVS cats are usually set to. They also work with the Uni-Bios chips so you can turn cheats on and off. (If you have one installed on your MVS board that is)

So, unless you want to buy a whole bunch of MVS carts and you're rich. lol Then the multi-cart is the way to go. 8)

Here's another good site.

The Blue Elf II is a good multi-board to get but this site is rather expensive. You may be able to find stuff cheaper elsewhere.

This is relevant to my interests.

I too am in the market for a multicart. What specific multi cart (extra points for links) do you recommend/use.

There is a lot of discussion about the multi-carts at these various threads:

http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218772

in short, I own the 150 in 1 and love it. It still won't take the place of owning the real carts when possible, but it's very nice to have. It's not perfect, and does not have some key games but the games do work. I ignore all the hacks - here is a breakdown somebody made of all the offical roms and all the hacked roms:
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219475

as you can see out of the 150 games on the cart - it's really only 89 games as the rest of them are stupid hacks of the same games (some of them mix up levels, some just unlock all the characters, some do who knows what)

The other annoying thing about the cart is the games are set to level 8 instead of level 4 default and the cart will only remember maybe a half dozen or so settings before you have to go back and hit the service switch to set it back.. not a huge deal, just a minor annoyance.

Also one thing that happened to me personally on my 2 slot cab is it wouldn't work correctly with a 2nd cart in there - the sound would break out and be all messed up. I think this is because the mult-cart uses more voltage to run it. I know some people run the multi and other real carts on their boards with no issues though, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm not positive, but I think this site has the carts the cheapest (they are from HK)
