I'm spending too much money this month and then comes Direct2Drive and puts Darksiders on sale for $15.
Should I get it? What are you guys' thoughts on the game?
Is Darksiders good?
Re: Is Darksiders good?
Yeah, Darksiders is well worth picking up - it's kinda like Zelda in the way the game is laid out and you progress, but with a more involved combat system. Also, it's quite long, so you'll get a fair amount of gameplay from it.

Am I the only one who keeps mistaking this game's name for Darkstalkers?

Re: Is Darksiders good?
Probably buying then. You really gotta love-hate these sales.

Did you get it? I'm thinking of buying it if it ends up on the annual Steam holiday sale.

As a matter of fact, as I said in this topic:lisalover1 wrote:Am I the only one who keeps mistaking this game's name for Darkstalkers?
I mean, hell, I got falsely excited every time I saw news for Darksiders. "New Darkstalkers? Oh, Darksiders. Goddammit."
Anyway, I played Darksiders. Found it ... passable. Nothing I would pay much money for, honestly. I mean, I didn't think it was a bad game, but I didn't think there was anything special about it either.

Yes, I did. Played for about 20 minutes yesterday. Loved the setting, but I was too tired to keep going.J T wrote:Did you get it? I'm thinking of buying it if it ends up on the annual Steam holiday sale.
The thing that made me buy the game on D2D is that it activates on Steam. I only have three games on D2D: Bioshock (which I bought when I was clueless), OutRun 2006 (which is not available on Steam anymore), and now Darksiders (which looks fine alongside my other Steam games).

Re: Is Darksiders good?
I was talking about this game in another thread, but I should really talk about it here for those of you who are curious about it and haven't played it. I hated it at first. I thought the gameplay and controls were a little unpolished and that the game was a ripoff of various other games, most notably God of War. However, the game has kind of grown on me. It seems like a long game and it definitely gets better as it goes along
For those of you who haven't played it, it's basically Zelda+Metroid+God of War and it really delivers in each of those areas. It's shamelessly ripping those games off, but at least it does it well. And if you are gonna steal, might as well steal from some of the best franchises of all time. The game's world is basically like a Metroid game, but it's full of dungeons that are exactly like Zelda dungeons and the combat is basically God of War. It's three games in one really. Nice thing about combat is that you don't have to do any annoying mini-games to do a fatality on an enemy like the God of War games.
So that's Darksiders' gameplay in a nutshell, but it throws lots of other surprises at you as you get further into it. While Zelda, Metroid and God of War are the main influences here, it borrows liberally from other classic games too, including Portal, Panzer Dragoon and third person shooters. I have to say the thing that made me stick with the game is the story and the setting. The voice acting is great(you've got Mark Hamill and other great voice actors), the look of the game is like a cool gothic comic book(comic book artist Joe Madureira was the game's creative director)and the game has a nice atmosphere to it. It really looks like a post-apocalyptic world and the game's sound design helps give it a creepy, lonely and desolate feel.
So I think the game is pretty cool, though I haven't finished it yet. I got it dirt cheap for the PS3 at under twenty dollars

I liked it. A lot. I think it is worth $30.00 so if you get it for less, you're winner.
Nobody can talk about this game without saying "Zelda". So if you like third person action + RPGish progession, and don't mind the grimdark story and style, you'll like this.
