Far Cry: Vengeance for Wii Review

Ah, Far Cry. From the moment I started it, I knew I'd found a great game. This particular version isn't perfect by any means, but it's still pretty good. Here's the details:

Jack Carver, the Hero

Story: The game begins with Carver, the protagonist, in a bar, when a woman named Kade asks him to meet her later. He agrees, but is arrested before he can meet her. While in prison, he learns that Kade is working with a group of rebels. He soon escapes while a man with supernatural speed named Semeru attacks the police station.

Gameplay: This game is an FPS unlike any I've ever experienced. One example of what I mean is this: You have to move the Nunchuk Controller like you were throwing a grenade to actually throw a grenade. This game takes full advantage of the Wiimote and Nunchuk, and utilizes them to create a fun gaming experience. Aiming your guns is kind of difficult though, as the game's motion control is pretty sensitive. What's most annoying about this though, is that there's no option to use the Classic Controller or Gamecube Controller. You shouldn't let this bother you though. It's still one hell of an experience playing this game, and while the game does lag a little, you shouldn't let it get to you.

Graphics: The graphics are...well, to be honest, they're not that great. In fact, they're pretty bad. This doesn't bother me, but it might bother some people.

Some Fun Facts:

-There is a Movie based off the first game in the series. It was directed by Uwe Boll.
-It was one of the earlier Wii Games released.
-In North America, it was the 2nd Wii Game to have an "M" Rating, after Splinter Cell: Double Agent.
-It's a Remake of Far Cry Instincts: Evolution for the Original Xbox.

Final Result: I've rather enjoyed this game, so far anyway, and I personally found few faults with it, but it's not for everyone, but hey, if you'd like to try it, go to your local Game Store and find it. I found it for under 10 Dollars at my local Gamestop Store.

Score: 7.8/10

Wow, to be honest, I can't believe you gave the game a positive review.

This was the first Wii game I bought, and at full price ($50)! I had just gotten my Wii and wanted something other than Wii Sports to play, so I went down to the Wal Mart. There really weren't too many games out at the time, anything I would really wanna play at least. So I spot Far Cry Vengeance. I think, "Awesome! I've played the first one on PC and it was a great game. My friend said he liked the one on Xbox. This looks like it'll be good!" So I picked it up.

So anyway, I get to playing the game. There's no denying it, the graphics are absolutely horrible. And that really is an understatement. There's no excuse. The cut scenes look worse than the gameplay, which is usually the other way around. The graphics look worse then PS2 or GCN, some times they looked like N64 (especially the cut scenes).

But, I'm a retrogamer, I don't need good graphics to enjoy a game. And I really did enjoy the gameplay. But there's another factor of the game that brings it down: It's buggy, very buggy. It didn't run smooth for me at all. The game would freeze sometimes. One time, it would freeze right after a checkpoint, and every time. I ended up having to start the level over, it would just keep freezing after I load the check point.

So if I were to rate this game, it'd be a little different. Scale of 1-10, Gameplay, I guess I'd give it a 7 or an 8. The gameplay was perfectly fine, though nothing special or new. But it was fun. The graphics... well, since they're the worst I've ever seen on the Wii then I have to give it a 1 (since 1 is the worst). If I ever see worse graphics, I'll bump this game up to a 2. Story, I don't remember the story, so I guess it was nothing special. Something about bad guys? Let's just give it a 5. Controls, they were pretty smooth from what I remember. An early Wii game, but I don't recall every having problems using the motion controls. Let's be generous and give it a 9. Quality: Buggy as all hell. I can't recall ever having played a game with more bugs and glitches. I'm sure they're out there, but I haven't played them. I'll give it a 3 in this department, since I guess it could have been worse. Final score: 5.2/10.

:D

But if you found this game fun, with the motion controls, there's a lot more FPS's on the Wii that are a lot better. Medal of Honor Vanguard and Red Steel come to mind (trying to think of older games - there's a lot of new FPS shooters on the Wii now).

But anyways, Red, nice job on the review! And I'm glad you enjoyed the game despite its flaws. I still enjoyed the game myself, just wish they spent a little more time making it!

I agree with Ziggy, this was the game that made a few of my friends old off buying a Wii, when you get a new System, it should'nt look worse than first gen games from the generation before. It really looks like ass.
