Tips on going tate with the Dreamcast on a VGA monitor.
Tips on going tate with the Dreamcast on a VGA monitor.
I was thinking with some of my Christmas money I was gonna get a tate monitor setup. I have few questions though. I've read certain monitors have lag, which one would be best for a tate VGA setup? Is there a easy way to mod the stand or buy a stand that swivels vertically? Also, which VGA adapter would be best? Is there a VGA adaptor that allows multiple consoles to be hooked up to it? I'd hate to have to buy 3 different VGA adaptors if I don't have to. Thanks guys.

I actually have a HP 1755 Rotating Monitor..It's a couple of years old but it does the trick...though when I got it it only rotated clockwise (the only shump I can think of for the dreamcast that allows you to play vertically that way is Shikigami no Shiro II,for all the others your screen must rotate counter-clockwise in order to see it vertically properly)..anyway with a quick mod a friend did for me, he got it to rotate counter-clockwise...so now games like Ikaruga, Radirgy, Chaos Field, and Mars Matrix all play the way they were meant to be played..Anyway you could look on Ebay for a "rotating monitor" (just type that in the search box)..but like I said you might need to mod it so it turns counter-clockwise.....personally I'm not really a shump guy, just liked the look of it..

I have an older HP rotating LCD as well. Mine is an LP2065, so you have another potential model number to look for. Mine goes counterclocwise.
Hmm, is actually older than I thought (I got mine used) and also still very expensive. I paid $80 used for mine.

Actually, I found this old thread that answered some of my questions about monitors. Maybe it will helps others with similar questions. http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... &sk=t&sd=a

My friend, please realize that:
for lcd monitors that have a native resolution of well above 640X480, the upscaling might look donkey.
I have a Dell lcd monitor, probably about 3 or 4 years old. when I connected the dc it looked ultimately blurry. so You might keep an open mind for a crt, which will have the crispiness you desire. and crt´s can just be put on their sides.
But hell, there might be lcd monitors with better upscalers.
You keep this in mind. and let us know how it worked out.

I doubt there's one made to rotate back and forth when you feel like it.noiseredux wrote:is there a such thing as an LCD TV that rotates like this?
For monitors it makes sense since you might want to work on a print document that you can look at in the orientation it will be printed. Radius is the first brand I remember seeing and they were made and advertised for Macs for use in the publishing industry.

Couple things to look at.
1. Will the Dreamcast image rotate to that Arcade vertical screen mode?
2. Monitor support for the lower res of 640x480. Most do, but not a lot of HD LCDs.
3. Need a CRT if planning to use a Lightgun, a must for the great House of the Dead.

I'd only be using it for vertical shmups. I just want a good monitor for this.CRTGAMER wrote:Couple things to look at.
