Does Anyone Care About Original Gameboy Games Anymore?

Post by racketboy »

It's getting harder to play original Gameboy games now (can play them on the DS), so I'm wondering if many people out there still care about the games.

There are some good ones out there like the Mario Land, Wario Land, Metroid 2, and some others that haven't been republished, but other than that, does anyone bother to play them via emulation or otherwise?

I guess my main concern at the moment is if I should bother doing a "Hidden Gems" piece for the original Gameboy.

I recently borrowed Link's Awakening DX and beat that. I enjoyed it more than LttP. It really does suck how the DS can't play them.

Funny you should say that -- Link's Awakening is the only Zelda I ever played completely through and went to play a second time. Can't nearly say that about LttP.

Kid Icarus's prequel was quite good, along with some of the puzzle games, ie Mario Picross. Though I will confess that I have yet to stomach most of the rpgs.

Some other games worth looking into:
Warlocked - an decent rts - yes rts.
Bionic Commando: Special Forces - an awesome sequel
Harvest Moon 3 - the best of the gb Harvest Moon
Azure Dreams - a unique GBC rpg with random dungeons
Final Fantasy Legend III - its the only one I can see me EVER playing again - the first one was just so bad.

A more define list coming, I am just fighting off a wicked headache tonight.

The old DMG GameBoy has a lot of great games. One of the reasons I didn't sell off my GameCube is so I could use the GBA Adapter to play GB games.

not sure i could ever go back to ol' black and white games. i think once the gba came out, my standards for portable gaming got raised - no more playing "snake" on my cellphone even

I'm still a fan of good games, whatever system they are (and regardless of crappy graphics).

And Link's Awakening was my first Zelda. Amazing game.

Oh come on link to the past was and is one of the best zeldas out there. If my memory dont fail it stood on nintendo power on the first 3 spots for almost 2 years. Racket you should really give it a try it may be the same as links awakening because awakening was kinda like a sequel (kinda) but i really liked the story and everything about it!!!!!!

Hehe forgot to post about the topic  guess I got carried away. Well I still do care about old gameboy games I still got two original gameboys I got a gameboy pocket thats the one I use to play them because the screen is better than the original and I didnt knew when I traded my advance sp for the nintendo ds that the ds doesnt have support for old gameboy games. And I still got new never opened a play it loud gameboy the clear one. Why I still have it unopened?. Well it was the last gift I received for my mother so ..... thats another story. But hey I still love to play those games its like magic they hook you up in a way you just dont want to stop.

The GBC Zelda lineup is fantastic. Links Awakening DX and Oracles/Seasons are simply superb. Play them.

I got really frustrated with Oracle of Seasons. It was just too... I dunno, annoying. I love the original Zelda, Zelda 2, and the SNES Zelda, but the gameboy ones seem lacking somehow, and I'm at a loss to describe it. I just find they feel very different and have too much of the chain collecting going on. Get this and trade for this, then for this, then for this, then for this, then for... and so on.
