Sega Saturn. Move chip from a Model 1 to a Model 2?

Post by Thermoptic »

I have a Japanese Sega Saturn Model 1 that got burnt, but it has a mod-chip installed. My question is, can i remove this chip and place it in my European PAL Sega Saturn Model 2?

I dont know if the chip works after the Model 1 got chocked, but if it still works is it compatible with my Pal - Model 1 Saturn?

Here is a photo of the chip that i just removed from the Jap Saturn:

Thanks!

Model 1 modchips are impossible to find. I think you would be better off selling it to someone and using the proceeds to buy 2 mod chips and a soda. You can charge a premium because they're rare.

Thanks for the info! I guess this means that my Model 1 chip doesnt work on my Model 2 Saturn.. bummer :( But I guess the good news is that i can sell it then? What does a Model 1 and Model 2 chips cost?

Umm, that's the same modchip Racket sells. I have no idea if it will work on a PAL Saturn without changing anything, but yeah.

Yeah, that looks like a chip for a model 2, and unaltered too.

Sorry about that, i must have mixed up the models. So the one with the round buttons are model is Model 2.. and as you say the chip is also model 2.

Well not much to do. I just have to do the swap trick or just try to find a PAL copy of Guardian Heroes (the only reason i bought a Saturn) witch seems impossible :(

Thanks for the help!

You can modify the model 2 chip to work on a model 1.

Good work Hobie & Ziggy on checking the OP's facts. I just took him at his word.

The model 2 supposedly can work on a model 1 but I've heard of folks who couldn't get it to work. Plus, it's a non-trivial mod.

Yeah, but you know, you can't trust every one's reports. Just because some one couldn't get it to work doesn't mean that he didn't butcher the chip or not install it correctly. Or didn't burn his games right / had bad images.

Understood. Is there someone in this forum who actually took Racket's model 2 chip and got it to work on a model 1?
