Together Retro 2010: Game Of The Year

Post by noiseredux »

I really wanted to make this thread a poll, but you can only have 10 options for a poll. Too bad, as this could have been a really fun poll to vote on. I'm curious now that the year is coming to an end, what was everyone's favorite Together Retro game for 2010?

In case you forgot, here's what we played this year:

January - Battletoads
February - Contra
March - Phantasy Star
April - Qwak
May - Xcom UFO Defense
June - Outrun
July - Ecco the Dolphin
August - NBA JAM
September - Urban Strike
October – King of Monsters & Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee
November – Wonderboy/Adventure Island
December – Tempest Series

It's probably kinda cheating as I've only actually played 3 of these together retro games, and then not actually, during the month I was meant to, but My vote goes towards the original Wonder Boy. I love that game.

Ecco is my close second, but the frustration sometimes outweighed the fun.

Godzilla is good, but not my favourite game ever.

Cool idea. I still have to play Tempest, but of the other 11 my vote would go to Outrun, as it is the game that I didn't really appreciate before the TR month. Sure, I'd enjoyed Contra and the Strike Series previously and might enjoy NBA Jam the best of everything here - but Outrun was the GOTY for me as it was the only one that was fairly new to me that I thoroughly enjoyed.

personally my vote for GOTY goes to Phantasy Star. Everything about it blew me away. I pretty much think it's one of the best 8-bit RPG's I've ever played.

maybe you can throw out the two with the least # of posts in the respective thread and vote on the rest?

is there any way for admins to change the max number of poll options?

I didn't play Phantasy Star, as I beat it about 10 years ago. Definitely an amazing game, though, so I'd vote for that one. 2nd would be Urban Strike.

Adventure Island. I played pt II during together retro and while it was hard, I loved every minute of it. That game is freaking huge and I feel I got my moneys worth out of it. I may buy a repo cart of pt IV soon after Christmas. Ecco comes in second. That game is pure magic genius, from the setting, story, gamplay and puzzles. Every aspect of this game has been well thought out and executed. I remember the first time I saw it I had to have it. I bought a Genesis with the money I had been saving the next week along with Ecco. What a great game.

Phantasy Star for me, but I have a weakness for RPG's, BattleToads comes at a close second
