What do I need to hook up a Sega CD 2 to some external speakers? The TV/monitor I am using has served me well for over 20 years but it's inbuilt speakers are dying. I would like to hook my Sega Monstrosity (trademark pending) to some external speakers/headphones. I am looking for a simple, small cheap set up but I have zero experience with these things.
My Sega Monstrosity consists of a Genesis 2 with a Sega CD 2 and a 32x attached to it. Video output is through RGB SCART out of the 323X, and that also handles the sound up to now. I do have a model 1 Genesis but no connectors for the 32X so I'll just stick to my model 2 for the time.

Hooking up a Sega CD 2 to speakers. Help!
Mostly harmless
Re: Hooking up a Sega CD 2 to speakers. Help!
Both models of Sega CD has Red/White RCA plugs on the back. You can run those directly to an AV receiver. The Model 2 passes audio to the Sega CD through the side connector, so you shouldn't need anything special.

So all I need is an AV receiver, 2 speakers and the connecting wires, right? Any suggestions for cheap no-frills AV receivers?Hatta wrote:Both models of Sega CD has Red/White RCA plugs on the back. Well you could get a receiver, if you want a big setup. Or you could just get some desktop speakers. A lot of them will even come with the adapter to plug RCA into the 1/8" input.

Like Ziggy said, pretty much any powered 'PC' speakers and an RCA to 1/8 headphone jack will fix you up.

True. But it's well worth hooking a Genesis into a hifi system if you have one available. Especially the early Model 1 genesis.

Of course, it depends on how much space one has available. I guess I assumed that he didn't already have an amp set up since he was asking, and perhaps not enough space for one plus bookshelf or larger speakers.Hatta wrote:True. Thanks everybody. Space is a problem so I'll go for the desktop speakers. I think I might even have some in storage. All I need is the RCA to headphone jack adapter. Is it something like this: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5143

You'll need this one assuming you're going to plug in some PC speakers. Make sure the speakers have a power supply and volume control too. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5125Hateshinai wrote:Thanks everybody.
