Why is Alpha so different than the other Street Fighters?

Post by noiseredux »

I just don't get it. Which is to say I'm very bad at it. When it comes to Street Fighter II(s), I feel so natural using Chun-Li. It's second nature to kick-kick-kick-kick-kick... y'know? Why do the Alpha games use the same characters but new moves?

Some Alpha characters look and play differently (i.e. Chun Li) probably because of where the game fits on the timeline story-wise and and to keep the series fresh after the 5 straight versions of SFII in a row. Other than that it's a different series with a different cast so its natural/logical for it to develop its own identity. Have you played SFIII?

In all honesty, Street Fighter Alpha should have been Street Fighter 3.

The alpha series play differently from the 'II' series, just as the 3 iterations of 'SF3' play different from the Alpha series.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Street Fighters Alpha to me feels more fuild or precise then robotic moves street fighter 2 turbo. Well virtua fighter games did have a robot feel including tekken. Street fighter alpha let me control the character more freely then ssf2t. MVC games feels more fluid and fine to fight.

I like to think of the alpha series as the series on crack or kind of like how mvc gets nyts at times. You have so many character play styles to choose from and huge rosters.

I prefer the Alpha series myself because it always felt more fluid and i liked the more anime style of the character designs. Though it did introduce the greatest fighter in the world, Dan, so its not a fair fight really.

You should totally try SFIII. In my mind, it and Garou: Mark of the Wolves are pretty much the pinnacle of 2d fighting games. Theres just something in a meticulously hand-drawn 2D fighting game that 3D on a 2D plane will just never live up to, which was why I was looking forward to King of Fighters XII sooooo much, but yeah....THAT didnt go to well for a number of reasons. King of Fighters XIII doesn't look like itll be any better but at least itll have a bigger roster.

I don't think Noise will be playing SFIII any time soon.
