Epic Mickey

Post by fastbilly1 »

Thanks to an unnameable contact I have in the industry - I got to play this for about an hour last night. It was AWESOME. So made up for the less than stellar Goldeneye.

Gameplay is very Zelda meets Mario. You move with the stick, jump with a, do an attack with spinning the remote. B shoots paint, Z shoots thinner, and C "moves" the camera (biggest gripe about the game so far is that the C button doesnt seem to work right). Dpad moves the camera, 1 toggles first person, 2 is the menu. I did not figure out + or -. I played the first three areas and while it did have a learning curve, it was easy enough to figure out. Mickey has a pretty decent double jump and the paint/thinner approach is fun - Much better than American McGee's Grimm.

My absolute favorite part thus far is the little tie in bits that give the world life. Take for example the travel between areas sections. To travel between areas you jump into a movie screen showing a classic Mickey short - the first one is Mickey and the Beanstalk. Now you have a 2d platforming stage based on that short. If you go to far to the left or right the film sprockets show up. Another is that the money in the world is called E-tickets. For those to young to remember, E-tickets were what you had to have to ride the good rights at Disney World years ago.

Overall I cannot wait till the game comes out. I was going to sit on it, but now it is a day one buy. From the parts Ive played, it is definitely a strong contender for Wii Game of the Year - possibly even game of the console.

I was very skeptical when this game was announced... but it really seems to be getting good early impressions. Easily one of my most anticipated Wii titles at this point.

I'm getting pretty amped. This may the first new game I buy in years. Girlfriend's looking forward to it too. To all those out there with a wife or girlfriend that plays games, how do you do the whole "new game comes out who gets to play it" thing?

I'd buy it only for the box art:

She plays first. Saves an argument, and I've got other games to play anyway.

If I get a job that earns enough money soon, this will be a definite purchase. I'll need to dust off my Wii.

Ok I got to put two hours into the game and got through the first couple areas before I had to give back my friends copy. I finally figured out why this game is sitting with me so well. It is like if American McGee designed a Mickey Mouse game. Its not as dark as Alice, but it hits the same marks. So if you like Alice give this one a go. And remember, if someone is giving you lip, just hit them with some thinner...

I wont say anything specifically about the game because I know many are looking forward to it, well atleast not openly.
