Update: Neo Geo MVS working on a monitor?

Post by Retrozoa »

As I recently have decided that Neo Geo hardware is too expensive for my broke college self, the next best option is to get a anniversary AES controller for either PC or Wii. The one listed below says it is PS3 compatible, but does anyone know if it works with PC as well? It would be so great if this was compatible, as I'm planning to build a MAME cabinet eventually.

Well if it connects via usb, there is a good chance it will work on the PC (with correct drivers).

Also you should buy an MVS Cabinet. Probably the best way to experience Neo Geo on the cheap without emulation. Games are relatively cheap.

That will work on PC.

Anything PS3 that connects via USB should work on PC.

That's a good deal on the controller btw, but I agree that emulation will be less rewarding.

I agree, emulation is not nearly as good as owning the system itself (Thats why I bought my Atari, turbografx, neo geo pocket, etc.), but the facts in my life are these:

-I am a college student
-I am an art major
-I am in a long term relationship

Basically, I'm not going to have much in the way of disposable income for about the next half decade, so I have to make do on a budget. I do have a LOT of game systems, but a good mass of my collection(5 systems, 90 games worth) is from a relative that no longer plays. If I had the money, I'd like to get an AES with an MVS converter, as it ends up about the same range of price as an MVS if I shop right($400-500), and it'll take up much less space. I am so close to just asking for an AES for Christmas, but that would mean getting nothing else.

Whoops, kind of lost focus there. Thanks for the help with the controller though.

I feel ya, art school is no time to be buying cabs no matter how bad I'd like one. For the price that's probably a real good stick. However I'd still recommended taking a look at the SF4 sticks from Madcatz or a Real Arcade Pro. They cost more, but the quality of the parts will be considerably better, and it's not like the neo geo sticks even replicated the arcade machines layout (I never understood that).

I actually have a friend who bought the SF4 arcade stick with a square gate, which he later modded to a octagonal gate, but I just didn't like the feel of it. Plus, I really wanted that authentic Neo Geo feel to the controller.

Ok, so, update: I gave in and asked for an MVS 2 slot arcade board for christmas. I'm planning to consolize it, but I'm not quite ready to go through the pain of building an RGB to NTSC adaptor, so I'm curious, does anyone know if the board can be hooked up to a computer monitor?

In the town where I live it's a lot cheaper and easier to find an old monitor than an old tv, and I thought that if using a monitor allowed me to bypass having to build a circuit board for a rgb to ntsc convertor, than it was worth it, even if it was still a little complicated.

I'm 75% sure that it's do able. You should probably check on the neo-geo boards, there'd be folks there who know for sure.
