Favorite hub worlds?

Post by Flake »

A great conversation on Sonic Adventure vs Sonic Adventure 2 in the SEGA forum got me thinking about hub worlds.

Namely that I hate almost all of them.

Except Down Town Kattelox Island from Megaman Legends. Before I even knew what hubworlds were, I liked that part of the game. It felt natural and alive. The people responded to what was going on in the game and if you were a dick / thief they would treat you accordingly.

Anyone have their own favorite examples of a hub world?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Yeah the hubworld from Megaman Legends was great.

But the best imo was Delfino Plaza in Super Mario Sunshine. I loved playing around that place for hours. That is more than I can say for the hotel stage.

Dammit, you beat me to it. I came to this thread just to voice my love for Delfino Plaza.

Personally, I quite liked the hotel stage too...

I agree with Delphino Plaza. Best HUB ever.

Although I quite like Moga Woods in Monster Hunter Tri, but I don't think that's a hub.

The best hubs, in my opinion, are Gruntilda's Castle from Banjo-Kazooie, and Toad Town from Paper Mario. [The N64 had a lot of great hub worlds! :P ]

yeah. Mario 64's castle was really fun to explore. I remember spending hours running around the court yard, doing triple jumps, z jumps, crouch jumps, and my favorite, sudden turn jumps.

On the other hand, Mario Galaxy's hub was horrible. So horrible in fact, that the mini hub world of Mario Galaxy 2 (the space ship) and the map for level select are much better. Still I would love to see another hub world like Delfino Plaza. For all the bashing Sunshine gets, I think people should give it more credit for its hub world.

The hub in Conker's BFD is done well enough that you hardly even realize it's there.

Nostalgia says to me Paper Mario 64, though I will say the hub in Paper Mario 2 was quirky in a certain kind of way. I fell in love with Toad Town as a small child, and Rougeport is also quite nostalgic. Same goes for Super Mario Sunshine's Delfino Plaza. Absolutely gorgeous.
