Does dead battery effect games on Modded Sega Saturn Model 2
I was just wondering if anyone knows if a dead battery will effect or cause certain games to freeze on a Saturn.

Re: Does dead battery effect games on Modded Sega Saturn Model 2
I played my Saturn with a dead battery for a long time and never experienced games freezing on me. (just saved to a memory cart)
When the battery died all the saves were lost and when I replaced the battery they didn't come back.
But besides saving, it shouldn't effect the gameplay at all.

As far as I know, the only thing that battery in the Saturn does is hold the time/date and game saves. A dead battery wont make a game freeze. The only thing a dead battery will effect in game is if the game uses the system clock for something, but even then, the game wont freeze.

Thanks for the quick replies. I didn't think so but I just can't figure out why certain burned games are freezing on me. 1 game in question is Waku Waku 7. After the character select screen my screen goes black and hangs there. I have a 1m/4m ram cart and other games play just fine so I can't see it being the mod chip or the ram cart.

A (nearly) dead battery in a Saturn can cause corrupted memory which in turn can cause all sorts of wacky issues like boot failures. If you have a way to try and copy any saves that are still there off, you might want to do that, then take the battery out for a while and let it sit to clear with it unplugged as well. Then try a fresh battery, or even no battery and see how it goes.

My Saturn recently was causing booting and freezing errors and I thought it might be the battery as well. However replacing the battery with a new one didn't solve the problem. I had to adjust the CD laser potometer for it to start working correctly again. Saturns are old... and the laser may be going! Hope you get yours working again!
