Thoughts on buying GGM or DS - emulation capabilites

Post by gripepe »

Hello everybody,

I'm new in this forum, and I would like to ask an open question to this community of expert gamers.

I am VERY tempted to buy a Game Boy Micro, since in Spain now the cost only 50€, but I'm not very sure about it. The thing is that I would like to own a portable console which would also allow me to play legacy games, and carry all them with me (by buying a Flash Rom).

I'm not sure wether the GBM can emulate other platforms such as SNES, MEGADRIVE, NES, Master System, or even Arcade (I love D&D II, shadows over mystara), but I know that the DS can. Of course, price (150€) and size are important for me. And screen size (would the GBM be too small to be confortable).

So, I put myself in your hands and thank you very much for your help.

PS. 1 euro is slightly more than 1 dollar, I'm not sure if this is an european or american forum.

I would say get the DS, sure its expensive but it does have more buttons then the GBM, especially that if you are going to play fighting games like Street Fighter since the game itself has 6 buttons, same thing with SNES.

DS for sure if your going for the emulation route. GBA has only a 16 MHz main processor if I recall correctly. DS is something like 67 MHz. DS will likely give you far more options in the long run.

Get the DS - although if you are only interested in emulation you should check out GP2X as an option!

If you are interested in everything, I think right now DS is the best handheld by far (best games and also interesting stylus based games).

I was going to say the GP2X as well.

I emulate the NES, Genesis, SMS/gamegear, and PC engine on it. The SNES emulator sucks ball sacks though.

It also have emulators for other platforms on it as well. Haven't played with them yet, but may. These include platforms like:

Amiga
DOS
atari
C64
colecovision
Gameboy advanced
Gameboy

and much more

Ditto -- I mostly do Genesis stuff on mine.

SNES emulation on DS is still far from perfect but DS flash cards are cheap
