Well, I never thought I would buy a Wii, but I caved. I thought I would at least buy a Wii before a 360, but that didn't happen. I have nothing against the Wii, it's just that there really aren't any games on the Wii that pique my interest enough to buy the system, even tho the system itself is cheap. They are releasing that 25th Anniversary red Wii and I cannot resist, I gotta have it. I know the first game I am going to buy is Sin & Punishment 2. It'll also make a great GameCube player.
One question, I have a plasma and a CRT TV for gaming. All of my old systems are on the CRT TV, and newer ones on the plasma with HDMI and component hookups. I hear a Wii looks best on a CRT. Is that true? I guess I can just try both, but I don't want to buy a set of component cables for the Wii then end up liking the picture on the CRT better. I am leaning towards going S-Video on my CRT TV, but if it will look better on a plasma with component cables, lemme know.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It depends how well your TV displays the resolution, cheaper sets tend to look like mud, my CRT looks better via component than my friends 1080p shit brand plasma.

component cables on the CRT is how I use my Wii & I can't complain, the colours look great. some games benefit from the widescreens like NSMBW for example
I recommend you make the most of your Wii and softmod it

I recommend picking up the component cables regardless. You can get a cheap one off of Amazon, and I'd say it's absolutely worth it.
By the way, you should totally do an unboxing when you get that red Wii. I've been eyeing that thing ever since it was announced, but I already have a Wii and can't bring myself to buy another purely for the color. I need to live vicariously through your purchase!

It depends on the TV and it depends on the game. However, Wii games and most good Gamecube games support progressive scanning and look much better that way. If your CRT doesn't do progressive, you should probably go with the HD set.
Re: (Finally) Buying A Wii, One Question....
^ pretty much the gospel truth. Component + progressive makes the wii look damn good and that extends to virtual console games. It's hard to go back to SNES games on S-Video after the wii.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: (Finally) Buying A Wii, One Question....
Of the TVs in the house, I've tried my Wii on a CRT(i) and an LCD HDTV both via component (D-term). I gotta say both look rather nice (my CRT is also wide screen) but I think the upscaler must be a bit slow on the LCD as it feels ever so slightly laggy (and the picture blurs a bit too). Then again, it is only a mid-range Sharp.
I've kept it on the CRT(i) as I like the color on the CRT better anyways. Perhaps when I step up to the Regza LED LCD later this year it'll finally move to that.

Re: (Finally) Buying A Wii, One Question....
99% of the games are widescreen and 480p so they should look pretty good on your plasma. If your set does a crappy job of upconverting SD content then you may want to stick with your CRT though.
I think some 3rd party games are just a low resolution mess with jaggies galore so a CRT may help hide that a bit.

Re: (Finally) Buying A Wii, One Question....
I got a component cable a while ago and while the drop in resolution from 567 to 480 was noticable, the colours are so much brighter and crisper so it was completely worth it imo
