Super Famicom problem

Post by bear »

I got a Super Famicom a week ago, and all is well apart from one small problem. While playing games, there is a transparent, 1 inch thick bar that runs down the middle of the screen. I've tried different composite leads, an rf lead, a GameCube RGB lead and different TVs, but it remains.

There are only two things I can think of that are the problem. The Famicom itself, or the fact I am using a US power converter to play it, which has a slightly higher voltage than the Japanese have. (I'm in the UK)

Is there anyway the small difference in voltage would cause this?

Cheers

I'm assuming this is an ED or HD TV? I'm in the US but I get it with my ED TV if I use composite. It does not appear with s-video.

If you're in the UK why not just use a UK SNES power supply?

In the end it'll just supply the same power output as a US or Japanese one with the same polarity to my knowledge so you should be just fine.

Yes, but it's like this on an old CRT.

It is probably power related. I get that if my U.S. SNES and Game Doctor SFVII are on the same surge protector. Assuming you aren't using a backup unit, try moving the electrical plugs for your TV and your Super Famicom away from each other as much as possible, and see if it helps. Just a suggestion.

it is DEFINITELY power related! i purchased a super famicom recently and it came with a power adapter that didn't quite match the required amperage, and red and/or green lines, 2-5 inches thick, kind of scrolled down the screen while it was on. make sure you're using the correct adapter.

if you don't have the correct one, get one!

Hit up eBay and anyplace local you can find to get yourself a UK SNES adapter after that all your problems should be solved.

I'm gonna order a UK power supply from ebay. I hope I haven't damaged my SNES for good.

If you're using a US > UK power converter, it is not a power issue. The difference between US & JP power is 10v which is really nothing. If you were just using adapters for your SuFami in the UK, you would have killed it already.
I've seen no one mention the fact that you're using a J-NTSC SuFami on what is likely a PAL TV... (Unless it's newer and it can use NTSC devices too). There lies your problem most likely. If in fact you have a PAL TV with a SuFami, your UK AC adapter won't help you at all.
