I need to vent a little.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I need to vent a little.

Post by ProfessorK »

Okay, so I was once proud to be the owner of an Alienware M15x laptop. Recently, I felt the need to do a system restore. Little did I know, the Alien FX software that came with the laptop (it controls all the lights, aside from the screen) was capable of burning out the entire FX board. From what I have read, if you update the boards firmware (which happens when you update the software) you have to be sure to stick with that update and NEVER install an older one. If you install the older one (that comes with your laptop although it was updated long before I bought mine) then you are screwed because your FX board will just... die. So I call dell and explain the situation...

Dell Rep: Let me take some notes... Okay, I'm just going to go talk with a technician...

Some time passes

Dell Rep: Well, your board is dead. We will have to replace the whole mainboard.

I'm shocked that it has happened, but it is a free repair so whatever. They tell me a technician will show up about three days from when the call was made. I'm a little annoyed, but its okay. It will be fixed. The day comes, and I make sure I am home from 2:30 to 5:30 (the span of time they said the tech MIGHT show). It gets to 5:30 and I still haven't received anything. No call, nobody came to my door, nothing. I call Dell again...

Dell Rep: Well, it appears they called the old account phone number, and not the current one that I can see is linked to your account. I am sorry about this sir. A tech will be over tomorrow, first thing.

So now I'm getting mad. They called a number that hasn't been associated with my account for over a year and when nobody answered they gave up. Awesome. The day comes when he was supposed to be over first thing. I wait and wait... Nothing happens... It gets after noon. I decide to give them some time. Finally, I call Dell again...

Dell Rep: Well, the technician couldn't give a reason as to why he didn't contact you sir. Worst case scenario, they will contact you by tomorrow morning.

SERIOUSLY!? He couldn't give a reason!? "Aww, F*** it. I don't feel like doing my job."
I am FURIOUS right now. GRAAAAHHHHH!

Sorry, friends. Just needed to vent...

I feel your pain. I had a situation with a Vostro I ordered some time ago and went through hell with them. I finally just gave up and returned it and went with another company.

I would love to have the balls to tell my employer that "I can't give you a reason" why I'm not showing up to do my job...

I've had a similar situation with my previous internet provider. I don't think these people realize most of us have to take off work for this kind of stuff.

Reminds me of this :D

this happened to my girlfriends computer... they had to replace everything on it... then decided not to tell us that they had no parts for it and that it would be over a month before they could even start to fix it... they told us this after i called them after a month... so it was over 2 months before they even started to fix the computer

Thats one of my favorite Seinfelds! Such a good show...

It sucks that stuff like this happens so much. It's like these companies just don't care at all about how they appear to consumers. Even on such a personal level!

You know, aside from all this its been pretty great. It's a bit on the heavy side and doesn't get much for battery life, but that's to be expected. The most I've done with it so far is Transformers WfC on Ultra settings and it ran great (Mines pretty basic mind you. Core i3 with 4 gigs of ram. Although i do have the 1 gig GTX 260m).

I do feel comfortable recommending it, although I will say that I wish i had just built a gaming desktop. More options and more bang for my buck.

My girlfriend in college had an Alienware, and it had really bad overheating issues. I'd say unless you really need the portability you should get a desktop instead.
