Alright, so, for starters, I have a triplehead setup, if you don't know what that is, here: http://sites.amd.com/us/underground/pro ... ience.aspx
I want to go ahead and say this now, please do not start asking me why the hell I would want this, call me a moron for investing over 400 dollars in it, call it cheating, etc. etc, I have gotten plenty of such replies, and I am sick of hearing them.
Anyhow, sorry to sound like a jerk in that last bit, but this really angers some people for some reason. I have always liked light guns, and I messed around with a wiimote back when I owned a wii, but never did get it set up correctly for this, now I want to try again, but I am not sure how well this works, has anyone tried this with fps games? how does it work? And does anyone think the fact that I have three screens going to be problematic with the sensor bar?
tl;dr: Three screens, want to use wiimote with sensor bar and bluetooth adapter and gun accessory with fps games, how well will this work?
EDIT: And does anyone know if nyko wiimotes fit any wiimote gun cases?

Re: Use Wiimote as light gun with triplehead, problem?
I love rail shooters on the wii, and have also fiddled with Glovepie in order to use the wiimote on HL2. And sadly, the wiimote has a very different feel from a lightgun/zapper.
The main difference is that with a lightgun, you're using the gun to aim/shoot at things on the screen.
With the wiimote, you're using the wiimote to control a cursor/reticle on the screen, which you then use to shoot at things on the screen.
It seems like a minor difference in writing, but a very big difference in reality. With a lightgun, there is a certain measure of accuracy in the sense that you will hit whatever part of the screen you are pointing at, whereas with a wiimote, what you're pointing at isn't necessarily what you're going to hit (which is why the games need a reticle).
- As for an FPS control, it's good enough and enjoyable, the only birth pains involve trying to find a position that will be comfortable in the long run (I prop my elbow on the handrest), but the zapper shell fixes this as it is designed for that purpose.
- I am not sure if a nyko wand will work with the official shells, but I've seen a Nyko accessory pack that has everything from shield and tennis rackets to wheels and guns.
- The three screens, I'm going to admit that I have no idea about how it works. I would assume that you only need one sensor bar for the center screen and it will still work the same way a widescreen would. The wiimote doesn't care about the actual screen much anyway, as long as it can triangulate its position using the IR lights on the sensor bar.

Yes, I'm not expecting this to be extremely comfortable, but I am an immersion freak. And I have an Xbox light gun and a NES zapper, and I know how it can be awkward, but I still find it pretty fun.neilencio wrote:- As for an FPS control, it's good enough and enjoyable, the only birth pains involve trying to find a position that will be comfortable in the long run (I prop my elbow on the handrest), but the zapper shell fixes this as it is designed for that purpose.
Thanks for the tips, and yeah, now that I think about it, number of screens shouldn't matter too much, since it is just going to be used as a mouse emulator.
I think I'll buy one of those cheap knockoff wiimotes on dealextreme or something, rig up a sensor bar, and if I like how it feels, get a real wiimote, decent light gun case, and a nice usb powered sensor bar or something.

Racketboy article, Wii remote with Panzer Dragoon on a PC.
Maybe using some of this for your FPS mod?

There are also PC lightguns that use a sensor arrangement similar to the Wii.

Thanks, but you'd be amazed at how many people think this is stupid and unnecessary.Hatta wrote:You must be kidding. Personally I think they're jealous.
Thanks for the link, but he is using the accelerometers, not the ir tracking.CRTGAMER wrote:Racketboy article, Wii remote with Panzer Dragoon on a PC.

Does anyone know what the best solution is for having the IR tracking simulate the mouse? I've been out of the Wii scene ever since my Wii died, and all I can remember is GlovePIE.
Re: Use Wiimote as light gun with triplehead, problem?
Okay....you have 3 TV's. You want to make a Light-Gun like device....Hmmm.
1. The light gun works by sensing light from a pixel. Wii has no such sensors for the TV it's self.
2. There's three screens, so if there's a object on 2 screens in the same spot, it'd be hard to tell which one is which unless you pull a duckhunt and just do one frame per object, but if you have like 30 objects on the screen, thats 1/2 a second wait. Thats too much.
3. If you don't use a CRT, You have to have software that runs and keeps track of each pixel as it renders, detecting light possibly, if it doesn't detect other pixels around it. But then, you have to do assembly on the Wii and I'm sure nobody knows where the registers are or how to do that and C is just not good enough to do such a thing (As far as I can tell) and that just makes it really difficult.
Just some bad points....I wish something like this would be possible, but it's probably too hard with the hardware of a Wii, or any other system.

Anyone who says that EyeFinity is stupid needs to step back and see how fucking ridiculous video cards have gotten. With the exception of Crysis (that game might not be an exception anymore) modern high-end video cards can render damn near any game you throw at it. There's no F.E.A.R.s or Doom 3s that bring cards to their knees anymore. That's half the reason why video cards now have 3d/triple heading. Cards are getting powerful enough to make these features possible.thelolotov wrote:Thanks, but you'd be amazed at how many people think this is stupid and unnecessary.Hatta wrote:You must be kidding. Is it unnecessary? Of course, but that's half the fun.
