Some n64 questions

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello, I just bought some new N64 stuff I need to ask some questions:

1) One of the cartridges I bought works, but when you shake it makes a sound, like there is a loose piece inside the cartridge, maybe a broken piece of plastic? Do you know what this is, and why it happens?

2)It seems that some games needs a memory pack AND support rumble pack, but I can only use one or the other, whats the solution?

3) How can I manage what is on my memory pack, games would save on it, but I cant see the inside so I can delete what I don't want and keep what I want. It was used so no idea how much stuff is on it.

4) Can any one with a full game on the 64 show me the insides of the box, or a picture if he has one already. I bought some game boxes, and am not sure where the game goes, on what side, and where would the manual go. Just trying to keep a genuine feel to the collection.

when you get a memory card for the N64, hold start when you turn it on and you can see whats on it.

with the cart, the sound you hear is probably a piece of the plastic that holds the rom to the cart. if the game was stepped on or dropped, a chunk fell off.

when the game asks for it, you can change the memory for the rumble pak, most games are like that.

At least for the few US boxes I have, the cart goes at the bottom. If you open the right side there's a white cardboard flap inside. If you lift that the cart goes in there. Then you fold it back in next to the cart so it is like this between the cart and the flap. |_|

The book slides in the space above the cart so it is right against the front.

I think there are some 3rd party rumble packs I have seen that you can jam a memory card into. I'm not sure on the quality though.

I had a Performance memory card/rumble pack combo back in the day and it worked well. Had no problems with it at all but damn does it add some weight to the controller. Pretty bulky too.

That beast. put that into the controller, then the memory card into the rumble pack.
Going through deleting inactive accounts of mine as a security precaution. No hard feelings, but admins, if it is possible to delete this account, please do so. Thanks in advance!

Okay, on some games, they'll include a slide-out tray that should be pretty self explanatory. On others, you open the flap on the right side (if you're looking at the game cover), and you should see some sort of cardboard compartment that the game slides into. It'll be covered by its own flap, most likely.

In both cases, the manuals go towards the front of the case, they just slide right in.

Games that support both will normally let you load your character/progress from the memory pack and then give you an opportunity to either switch the memory pack for the rumble pack or continue playing with your memory pack inserted.

Ok I figured it out
I need a game with memory pack menu, which then I can manage the data
thank god I have Perfect Dark which workats really well

but whats upsetting is that with 6 wrestling games purchased recently, I don't think this memory pack can hold much information

Maybe a second memory card? Nyco makes a nice combo non battery rumble/memory card.

Or try and get the elusive Interact Dex Drive, PSX and N64 version were sold.

The Nintendo brand mem cards seem to be most reliable (as expected) - i've gotten many performance and other 3rd party cards and they are never working now.

Yep, you got a loose tab inside your cart, if you look at the bottom of that cart that is making the noise, you should see a small tab missing from the far left/right of the bottom of the cart. If it's bugging you, a $3.50 investment in a security bit will open it right up and get it out. This is a great investment as you can replace good backs from crappy games for crappy backs the crappy backs on your good games.

Often the boxes you will buy now came with a pull out white tray to hold the cart, those were great, I think most wrestling games had the tray "built-in" and those are much less durable and hard to keep in good shape.

Welcome back to N64!
