Any railfans here?

The InterCity 125 is still a formiddable Diesel-powered locomotive, and is my all-time favourite

I'm not a full-fledged railfan but I do enjoy driving locomotives in simulation games. Whilst I lament that the Densha de Go games are never localised at least they're easy enough to navigate and master, but they certainly lack the element of realism and presentation (No external views whatsoever). I snicker at the thought of playing with trains while actually riding a train!

A DdG game with these graphics would be awesome on 3DS!

Then there's Railworks for the PC and its pretty extensive but doesn't cover Japan (mostly budget and fanbase considerations I imagine). It does lack the flair of later DdG games (e.g. Railfan) but its realism and complexity certainly make up for it. I like the fact that they made three 'presets' of realism depending on how involed you really want to be.

Your only choice if authenticity is what you're seeking

I'm still miffed that Microsoft had axed their simulation dev house, meaning MSTS2 won't be seeing release, or at best it's going to be renamed Train like their Flight series, with excessive downscaling to ensure a port to consoles can be feasible.

I guess the lure of trains is essentially ingrained at an early age (either hereditary or through toys) or not at all.

I enjoy watching trains so I guess I could be a rail fan. I wish I could go back in time to see the steam engines of the 40s & 50s.

These are my favorite engines:

Southern Pacific GS-4

My grandfather was an engineer who drove the GG-1 from NYC to Washington DC. My father had a few opportunities to ride with him on his run.

Yeah. Loved trains since I was a kid. Now I have bullet trains. :D Well, not my own but y'know.

Trains are cool. Unfortunatedly my favourite locomotive (Red Devil 4-8-4) is probably not available on any scale, much less N, which is the one I have some tracks for.

I never played any simulator other than MST, I always felt they were not going to be as good so I never quite made the jump.

I love the Densha de Go series, I even did a review for a PSP version of the game (Yamanote version) in the reviews section. Railfan for PS3 is fun, but I only like the Chicago/Japan version, the Taiwanese one is OK.

Are the Densha de Go games import friendly? I remember reading about them back in the 90's in tip and tricks - I thought the idea was pretty neat, and that was LONG before I ever went to Japan and actually rode the rails.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

The Densha games are very import-friendly, even the DS game with the mandatory tutorial is easy to play.

Which (in your opinion) is the best title for the PS2? I have a jp console so that'd be the easiest for me if I decided to import.

@Flake: I only have Densha de Go Final, also available for the PC. Not sure whether it's worth the $$$ being asked on eBay though. Plenty of Youtube videos exist, which might be of help.
