Does a Ps2 Multi-tap work on a Ps1? (and vice versa)
So i have a ps2 multitap and I want to use this on my Ps1 with Crash Team Racing (Witch I heard have 4-player support, can someone confirm this?) but the question is if the Ps2 multi-tap works on a ps1?

Yes, CTR does support 4 players.

A PS2 multi-tap will not physically fit into a PS1.
You need a PS1 multi-tap for PS1 games. Even if you use a PS2 for your PS1 games, the PS2 multi-tap will not work with PS1 games.*
If you have a PS3 and four controllers, you could play 4-player Crash Team Racing on a PS3 with Sixaxis or DS3 controllers.
*Some third-party multi-taps will work on both systems. Sony ones will not.

depends what type of multi tap you get. i have one that works for both.
the memory card input can flip backwards so that you can plug it into a PS1 without it getting in the way.
cant remember who manufactured it but it looked like a boomerang
edit:
the input looks like this.

If it's one without the memory card plug then it will work. PS2 controllers work on PS1s and vice versa. They use the same protocol/pins.

I dont mean to hijack this thread but I have another question about the multtap.
I have an official multi tap and I wish to know if it works on the slim ps2?
I dont have any 4 player games so I cant really tell.
But it seems that when I plug in the tap into my slim ps2, it doesnt go in all the way.
would this be a problem? has anyone used it in their slim ps2?

Thanks for the help! I completely forgot about the memory slots on the ps2 multitap, with those in the way its impossible for it to fit on a ps1. Except if you get the other one that can remove the slots. Thanks!

I play Virtua Tennis 2 (ps2 version) on my ps3 with 4 players
But when connecting with 4 sixaxis´ you then need to assign specific ports to 2 of the controllers, can´t remember exactly which.
Experiment! if it doesn´t work reply here or make a new thread and notify me. I´ll see exactly what it should be.

I did try a 3rd party PS1 tap on my PS2 Fat years ago with Guantlet Dark Legacy for PS2. It was a used tap from Gamestop but I remember it not working. Maybe it was just dead.

You have to have a slim multitap. Sony made fat multitaps for the fat PS2 and slim multitaps for the slim PS2. I have both. They are pretty cheap at Gamestop used.
