~Probably a dumb question, but: About converting MAME roms

Post by I Feel Asleep!! »

I heard something about rom converters, and I have some interest in a particular MAME rom, sooo...Is it possible to convert a MAME rom to an SNES SMC rom? At least so that it can be played on an SNES emulator? and if so, could such a converted rom be put onto a repro cart for play on the SNES?
Again, I realize this is probably pretty stupid sounding and likely not possible at all. I'm sure the SNES can't support a direct arcade game in rom form, but I still really just wanted to ask. I would just hella dig the thought of getting the actual Battletoads arcade game on an snes repro cart. dreamin big...

Have not heard of that. I don't think that is possible without an EMU involved.

There are Mame Rom conversion programs to update the checksums to a new version of Mame.
Also have read about language conversions for Japanese console games to a U.S audience.

Yeah that's definitely not possible. Most likely what you've found are converters to get a MAME rom to run in another arcade emulator. Converting a MAME rom to SNES would be like converting a PS2 game to NES, they're completely different beasts. Just get yourself a good controller for your computer, and get MAME going! It'll never let you down!
My Want List!

Consoles: Sega Master System, NES Toploader, Genesis/32X, Sega CDX, SNES, 3DO FZ-1, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PS2, Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox Halo Edition, Wii, PS3
Handhelds: Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad, Neo Geo Pocket Color, GBC (Atomic Purple, Pokemon Edition), GBA (Pink OG, Silver SP, Spongebob SP+), DS (Phat, iXL), 3DS, PSP (1000, Go)

You may also be thinking of the conversion to prepare Neo Geo roms for use on that one emulator for DS.
