They're out of ideas on how to advertise shooting games
This is really pissing me off. I think it started with Gears of War 1 or 2 where they had the slow calm music playing amid all the chaos. Now it's somehow the "cool" thing to advertise shooters with older or out of place music. They did it again with Halo, then again with another generic shooter I can't remember, and now I just saw them advertise "fallout new vegas" with the same schtick.

Just wait, they'll use Beethoven's Fifth next.
Though really, I think those commercials would work great with Mozart's Lacrimosa.

I think some commercials work with older music, like both of the Bioshock games, since they fit the theme.
And I don't know alot of info on Fallout: New Vegas, but shouldn't it be centered around older music too? Or was that just Fallout 3?

Well, at least the newer Halo commercials are live-action and really pretty.

haven't seen said commercials, but this is a lovely video, and the music fits it perfectly

To be fair though, all these commercials are pretty cool. I know I tend to unmute these commercials more often than most other video game commercials. I think it's far more interesting than using atypical nu-metal or Eminem. And at least these songs are usually, you know, good.
Speaking of which, does anyone know who performs the cover of Masters of War in the Resistance 3 trailer?

yeah the fallout: new vegas spot is kind of a throwback to the original fallout 3 commercials. i kinda like those ads, to be honest. not a lot of "chaos" going on.

see the resemblance?

Fallout has always had older music. The intro movies for
Fallout 1, 2 and tactics had it as well.

Admittedly though, it makes sense for the Fallout series, WWII FPS, or games like Bioshock to have music from the era. Sure, Fallout takes places in the future, but the world the vault dwellers left was 1950s America, so their culture would be heavily influenced by it. Though it's...what, the 1960s in Bioshock, the city you explore was built in the 1930s or so. And WWII took place in the 1940s, so...yeah.
Where it doesn't make as much sense is in modern combat games, futuristic ones that don't have the sort of connection to the past that something like Fallout does, or some of your wackier shooters that don't seem to have much connection to...well, anything.
