Need Recommendations for Fighting Games on the DS

Post by neilencio »

I'm going to go videogame shopping tomorrow and I'm currently on a Fighting binge, care to recommend anything for the DS? I've been browsing the per genre list on gamespot and have not come out with anything good outside of the ones I already have:

1. Bleach: Dark Souls - awesome and I've already unlocked all the characters so there's not much more to enjoy. And I'm looking for a fighter that is not weapons-based.

2. Dragonball supersonic warriors 2 - Crap. It's a waste of the DS's capabilities. If you remove the touch controls, it's not that different from the one on the Gameboy Advance. They could have at least made the characters not look unproportioned.

3. Naruto Shipuuden: Ninja Destiny 2 - I can forgive the pixelated graphics considering the DS's 3d capabilities, but the game itself is broken. It's extremely hard not in the sense that it's challenging, but because the fighting has you rely on mashing the buttons and timing it so that the opponent can't block, which also becomes useless because of the teleport behind thing.

4. I borrowed Jump Superstars but I can't navigate the japanese menus enough to enjoy the game, which makes it less enticing for me because I need to unlock the other characters through the story mode.

What other fighting games can I check out on the DS? I've heard bad things about Guilty Gear so I'm not even going to go near that one.

...also, I find it disappointing that there's no street fighter on the handheld.

Yeah..As much as I love the DS, the selection for my favorite genre quite frankly sucks ass.

If you're a Mortal Kombat fan, you can't go wrong with Ultimate Mortal Kombat. It's an excellent version. There's also Custom Robo Arena that's pretty fun. Other than that, there's not really anything else there to try.

There are a few good fighters on the GBA if you have a DS or DSlite.

I found Jump Ultimate Stars and Jump Super Stars extremely easy to get through. Maybe make sure you have Gamefaqs ready, but it wasn't any trouble for most I've talked to. It's also, EASILY, the best fighter on the DS.

Personally, I didn't hate Guilty Gear on the DS. It just isn't Guilty Gear, it's more a Smash Bros rip-off - and not as good as JUS/JSS.

If you want good fighters for the DS, you'll either need to get a flash card and NeoDS (I love playing Waku Waku 7 and Garou on the DS), or some GBA games like Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival, King of Fighters EX1 & 2, and Street Fighter Alpha 3. Other than that, your options are limited.

Personally, I just always have Jump Ultimate Stars in my DS. It's the only game, fighting or otherwise, I play on the DS.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the GBA is pretty awesome.

On the DS, I enjoyed Dragonball Z: Super Sonic Warriors 2. It's not a deep game, just mindless fun.

...wow, and that's all I can think of. They really didn't put many fighters on the DS!
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Yes, there are, but the tech of DS doesn't allow sharp graphics compared to the PSP.

I do say for portable fighting games, go with the PSP for the quality selection.

Yeah, I mean it's probably the DS's worst genre, so hence my shock.

If you've already played Bleach Dark Souls, then try its predecessor, The Blade Of Fate. I actually prefer it to the sequel. You said the aren't looking for a weapons-based fighter, but as everyone has said, uou don't have too many options on the DS.
