Fixing a TG-16 CD?
I recently got a really cheap price for a TG-16 CD with all parts and its carrying case from ebay. The only catch is that the seller has told me that the drive does not spin the disc and he thinks the laser might also be bad. Does anyone have any advice on fixing these problems and/or a good guide on what parts I need to be seeking out and what work needs to be done?

Also, if anyone has the case art for Popful Mail (Sega CD), I'd like to speak with you!

Re: Fixing a TG-16 CD?
Hey man, Glad to hear you find this awesome system... I was in the same boat as you a few years ago.
The system would power on, but it would only display "PC" in the LEDs. turns out the gears in the laser assembly needed to be reset, and lubed up a bit. I used some "white lithium plastic grease". Amazon has it pretty cheap.
After I lubed the gears, and cleaned the CD-ROM laser, all was well.
Check out the forums at this website below... great information on anything NEC.
Here's a link to my post from 2008 about how to revive a dead TG16-CD unit. I think it will be a good starting place for you. Check out the repair section and there's also a guide there on how to replace the laser assembly with a new one.

Good luck dude!

The support and forum link are most appreciated! As soon as my new prize arrives in the mail I'll get started on repairs and let you know how it comes out. I've wanted one of these for I don't know how long!retromangia wrote:Hey man, Glad to hear you find this awesome system... I was in the same boat as you a few years ago.
