Just got around to watching the first episode and I was blown away! I'm not really big into watching television, and it takes a lot for me to be interested in a show, but this was seriously great stuff. Steve Buscemi was GREAT in it, and I'm genuinely excited to see where they go with the story.
Anyone else watch it?
Anyone watch Boardwalk Empire on HBO?
Re: Anyone watch Boardwalk Empire on HBO?
The cinematography is like nothing else. The writing is decent, but the imagery should keep anyone's attention.

Yea man, it was awesome. My wife and I loved every minute of it. I thought that Steve Buscemi did a good job, but his sometimes hackneyed facial expressions and less than imposing stature (the real "Nookie" was very tall and physically commanding) detracted a tad. The pacing, directing, cinematography was fantastic. The stage has been set for at least 2 seasons of amazing TV!

HBO owns the airwaves right now. This Along with True Blood , East Bound and Down, Bored to Death and Entourage.
I do not think anyone makes better Television shows.

What brilliant cinematography! Every shot was a work of art. I loved the recurring visual themes such as a figure looking into a window from the outside. Boardwalk Empire is masterful work.
Re: Anyone watch Boardwalk Empire on HBO?
have it DVR'd to start as soon as I finish up Pillars of the Earth, which is great so far.
But yeah, as a huge HBO show, Sopranos, and Buscemi fan, I am stoked.

When does it come out on dvd? Can I buy episodes on itunes or something?
Re: Anyone watch Boardwalk Empire on HBO?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually HBO/Cinemax/Showtime/etc. shows aren't available for paid download on iTunes or anywhere else since they want people to pay to subscribe to the channel itself. On the other hand, they are some of the most widely pirated/torrented shows...Jrecee wrote:When does it come out on dvd? Can I buy episodes on itunes or something?
It'll probably hit DVD 6 months or so after the season is done.
Re: Anyone watch Boardwalk Empire on HBO?
The second episode was decent IMO, but not as powerful as the first. I'm still loving the series though. I'm really enjoying Steve Buscemi, and Michael Pitt is awesome in his role.
While we are on the subject of HBO, anyone catch Eastbound and Down? Had me laughing my ass off this week!

Watched the first episode last night and loved it - too bad they won't all be directed by Scorsese
As a huge Sopranos fan, I'm not yet sure if this will measure up but it's obviously far too early to tell. None of these characters are as instantly memorable or obviously well cast as Tony Soprano/James Gandolfini was from the very first scene of The Sopranos. Still, my hopes are high.
I agree that the cinematography is great - but what really struck me was the set design: meticulous, expensive, and elaborate.Luke wrote:The cinematography is like nothing else. The writing is decent, but the imagery should keep anyone's attention.
