Metroid: Other M - Worst Metroid Ever?

So is it safe to say that Other M is the least enjoyable Metroid of all time?

I'd say that's a very strong statement. There's an implied prejudgement. Here's a similar question: "Which of these movies is the worst: Casablanca, The Godfather, or Empire Strikes Back?"

That said, this certainly doesn't rank up with Super and Prime 1. I'd rank this approximately equal with Fusion, though I slightly give the nod to Fusion for the SA-X sequences. I think Echoes has been my least favorite of the series, but it's still a strong game.

Gameplay wise, from everything I've gathered, it's right there with Fusion.

It loses a lot points for having a nauseating narrative though.

Metroid is a series that focuses on action and exploration.

Metroid: Other M is a game that brings the action to a jarring halt every 20 minutes for pointless exposition and doesn't offer much more exploration than back-tracking for missed items.

If they'd put another name on it, it might be a solid title.

As a Metroid game? It's terrible.

I still don't get all the hate over this game. It plays really well, gfx & sfx are great, and the story is no better nor worse than any other Japanese-made game with theatrics.
Frankly, I have played a lot of games with cinema scenes and none of them are particularly good. I just think people's expectations are way too high being that it's a Metroid game.
The best thing out there that I've played that wasn't game-cheesey would be the MGS series and even those are not very good (cinema-wise). I honestly cannot say that any cinematic game compares to any average Hollywood movie and I wish everyone would stop trying to do so. Game producers are not movie makers despite how hard they try. Even if they spend the money and get Hollywood actors, the end result isn't usually good because you don't have script writers, good directors, etc.

You should rent it then. It's really fun and don't let the haters make you miss out on a good game (especially if you loved Fusion).

I haven't played it yet and I haven't read any reviews outside of this site, but those who have played it on this site seemed to think positively of it (before the 3-4 response above, that is). I would say bad reviews mean rent it before buying so you can see for yourself. I love the Metroid games and have played all of them up to Metroid Prime. I remember a lot of hate being directed towards Prime (mainly because the switch to 3D and the more FPS-style gameplay). Regardless, plenty of people on this site love it, which makes me think you should trust us more than them!
