Traveling for a purchase?

Post by manasol »

Would you guys travel 45 miles going one way for a combined 90 miles to go buy some retro games?

I am thinking about going ahead and doing it.

Well, it depends on what kind of deal it is and how hard it is to find.
It might just be more cost and time effective to get something on eBay

Of course !!!

It's all about the hunt to find the great deals or hard to find games.

I've travelled many a days to go gamestores out of my way.
Crap I used to go from eb game store to eb game store. I would hit about 5 in total.
Was worth it sometimes. Gitaroo Man for 10 bucks was a good find at one.

 Tha's good stuff. As for the deal, it's for a whole lot (and that's a lot), which he'll give me for 5$ to 20$. Not each but a bundle of games since he has many.

But I have to travel the turnpike south in traffic and pay three toll booths. One dollar but I was just antsy about the distance.

P.S. PmF, that mini DC had me googling to see if it was a real mini working dreamcast. Then I found it was not but I was more impressed by the detail and overall fun value it has.

For sure, depending on what your getting. But as racketboy said sometimes ebay (or even buying from a forum like this) may be more cost effective. After I bought my Dreamcast a few years ago I took me some time to track down a gamestop that was still selling Dreamcast accessories - about an hour away. Was able to snag some good games for the price as well as new keyboard.

Well the guy told me friday and I was ready and excited. I call him after 7:00 p.m. as he told me to on our email conversation but lo' and behold he says he is going out. So we agree on Saturday. I call him up again and he tells me he is going out again. So we agree on Sunday and that he will email me the list of games so that I can choose them and then he never did.

So I decided not to go. Another dud. But!, I went to my brother's girlfriend's, lol, family home and they were having a garage sale. I got a screwdriver for a good 25 cents. :D Also a piece of thin wood, a wire brush, and a small, small portable battery charger/jump starter for helping out. Went home and decided to buy on ebay for the first time. I got an oxygen sensor for my car, a factory service manual, and BODY HARVEST for n64. So it wasn't a terrible day and got to relax on the sidewalk on a nice cloudy and windy day.

For the win though the man who is a friend and neighbor to the family makes a living off of ebay and he tells me some good info. Here in Fort Lauderdale we have the biggest Swap Shop (Flea Market) in the world and that he's seen a guy who sells boxes of games for $5. He told me to go on Thursday at 4:30 a.m. So I have decided to go and find this man and take a camera as well so I can show the forum my adventures. I'll keep a sharp eye out for games and consoles I can sell here not on ebay since I only want to help another like me who is having a crap time getting games and systems.

Maybe sooner so I don't spend the money on something else I am thinking Tuesday. Since I have to borrow a digital camera.

Oh your in Fort lauderdale... West Palm Beach here.

yeah, there are some good finds at the "ft lauderdale swap shop". There are a few shops dedicated soulily to video games, but you won't find 'treasures' there at good prices... most of the video game oriented shops really know there stuff and actually over charge accordingly for rare and hard to find titles.

But if you stay out in the parking lot, people constantly have old video games just lieing about and can be haggled a lot. I've found Sega Saturns with mod chips for like 5 bucks in the parking lot. Also spindles of game discs for Saturn and Dreamcast that they were selling in huge lots as 'demo games' for dirt cheap.

So yeah, stay outside mostly, in doors and the speciality stores are to be avoided. The tag saler looking crowd is where you want to go to find treasures and the sort.
