Sengoku Basara 3

Post by brunoafh »

Does anyone know why the game is retailing for $40? It hasn't been released in Japan for very long at all (2-3 months) and it doesn't really feel like a "budget" game to me.

To draw people in I want to say since most won't know what Sengoku Basara is.

What IS the game all about anyway? It looks interesting but maybe in a 'Soul Calibur Legends' kind of way.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I haven't played any Sengoku Basara games, but from what I've seen and read they are basically Capcom's take on the Dynasty Warriors games. Actually, they are more specifically Capcom's version of the Samurai Warriors games, which are a Dynasty Warriors spinoff series based on historical figures from Japanese history like Nobunaga

I want to try them sometime

They are similar to dynasty warriors in gameplay. One character against thousands of braindead soldiers. The only difference I've seen between Sengoku Basara and Dynasty Warriors is significantly less characters, and different combos systems. In SB you have a normal attack button, and two special buttons, and your "super" special attack which depletes the bar you build up. From what I played, there are no real "combos". You just keep mashing the attack button, using one of the other two moves when you need to. In dynasty warriors you have two attack buttons and your combos change depending on what point you hit the secondary attack during your primary button mashing. So there are usually something like 4 or 5 different combo streams. I'm not sure which game is really "better" because they are practically identical and I found the lack of different combos in SB to get pretty boring in an already repetitive game. From what I understand, SB is super popular right now which may be due to the smaller roster of specifically defined characters? Dynasty Warriors has an absurd number of people to play as and they are always changing in appearance between games. As well, a lot of the characters are duplicates of each other.

Sengoku Basara 3 is my most looked-forward-to-game of this year.

Sengoku Basara 2 was the first game I ever imported for the PS2, and it made me an instant fan. God, I love this series - basically, imagine Dynasty Warriors, except replace the absolute boredom with Katamari Damacy style crazy.

Mother Fucking Steam-Powered AT-AT Imperial Walkers.

Don't forget that there's and anime series for Sengoku Basara as well. Plus the character designs are more appealing say when compared to the Dynasty series of games. Picture below depicts Date Masamune (Figma figure) which is one of the more popular characters in the series.

I know the game was localized here in the states as Devil Kings and omitted all original names and what not. If you're unsure still I know the demo is out for PS3 so give that a download too if you want to see for yourself.

Give or take, it is Capcom's take at Koei's Warriors series.

Don't expect any history accuracies for this one either, like making Honda Tadakatsu into a huge cyborg

Tokugawa Ieyasu as a bare-knuckle warrior, Oda Nobunaga as demon-like character...

You will either like it as you would with the Warriors series, or roll your eyes and say "com'on, there's gotta be more!"
