Need help with burning dreamcast games

Post by Frizz.Meister »

I just invested in a stack of CDRs and DVD cases but after nearly 2 hours trying im about to give up on even trying to burn these games.

With discjuggler i get a message saying PMA error and it spits out my disc having use part of it (ie, rendering the disc useless)

With BootDreams i get; Unknown error 53, File not found, in BurnCDiSub()

Image

Can anyone offer any help???

For the record i have tried:
5 different brands of CDRs
10 Different ISOs

So i've ruled either of them out the problem.

Get the trial version of Alcohol 120% and use iso's from DCisozone.com. I burned a shitload of games last month using those with no problems at all. Remember to burn at the slowest setting. Can't believe i'd had my DC for 10 years before I burned my own games.

yeah, Trial version of A120 and Dcisozone.com is what i use. And i went through the same thing you did, different CD-rs, tons of failures, etc. I havnt had any problems at all, and dcisozone has tons of games as well as emulators and apps and all kindsa cool stuff.

What file type are you using?

Here is what I do for an CDI with diskjuggler demo version (I've never gotten Bootdreams to work)

1. Open a new disk image
2. Pick the file
3. Click the advanced tab
4. Select the following settings -
Mode: Mode 2
Block: Either 2048 or 2332 has usually worked for me. I'd just leave it for now
Select RAW write (very important)
If the file is slightly over the CD-r space select Overburn

5. Start: your disk should burn fine.

With other file types what you select to burn changes. Bin/Cue you burn the Cue file with a MDF/MDS you burn the MDS. I have actually never used these because I get such great results with CDI and also because they are rarely auto boot.

I just burned about 8 games with Alcohol 120% and got my CDI's from DCisozone. All work perfect. I burned at 8X and RAW/SAO.

I would suggest getting your Dreamcast games from this guy:

His releases are far better quality then any one else.

As for burning them, you could easily mount the CDI in a virtual drive and rip it to BIN/CUE format, then burn the BIN/CUE to a disc using ImgBurn (all free software). I've burnt about a dozen or so Dreamcast games this way and never had a problem. I explain how to do it in this thread:

Thanks for the help, but alcohol appears to crash my computer whenever it starts to burn to disc...

As for discjuggler it got further using the settings you requested but then spit out another type of error.

I am now trying the virtual drive/image burn technique and so far the forming of a bin and cue file has worked but im yet to manage to get it on disc.

EDIT: I might have just dicovered my problem, my disc drive sucks as imgBurn says

So my next question would be, can anyone do it for me? I will pay happily because my reason for making backups is that recently i've accumulated some of the more valuable dreamcast games such as Border Down and Ikaruga and fear regular use will damage the discs over the years.

It looks like to me your drive's firmware has an error in it. What is happening (I think) is the program is calling for a certain burn speed which the drive sends back that it can do and then as it starts to burn and reach that speed it never actually gets there but the drive is saying everything is ok. So you get an error from the program.

They both may have burned even though you got the error. Diskjuggler is less likely since it probably didn't finish the burn since the trial version forces you to burn at a certain speed in the trial version or it won't run.

how old is your drive? About how many CD/DVD have you burned with that drive?
Update firmware.
Update burning program.
Update windows.
Reinstall windows or repair.

If none of this works then you need a new burner.
PSone, Xbox, PS2, DC, SS Mod Service, PM for details

The drive is just over 4 years old and has taken a beating from my many CDs for my HiFi (its even older and cant take mp3).

I've got a fully updated windows vista but ill reinstall the drivers just to make sure. However i can burn saturn games(hence why i thought DC would be easy) and have never had a problem which doesnt really make any sense.
