I recently saw a cheap copy of Age of Conan and thought I might give it a try. Then I looked at System Requirements and it wanted 30 GB of my hard drive space! Yikes! That seems a little bit presumptuous that they would even think I would be willing to let them take up that much space on my drive.
I actually try to be careful about size requirements now because I have so many games installed on my laptop. A lot of modern games take up around 10 GB, whereas older games take up 1-2 GB. That often means that for one Assassin's Creed I could have installed 10 classics from the 90s and early 00s. I'm getting to where I prefer older games just because I have space to install them.

Re: Does the size (GB) of a game effect whether you will buy it?
I recently passed on the XBLA release Shank mainly because it takes up 2GB on my hard drive, (I'm still rockin the 20GB HDD) I've heard okay reviews about it, but that's a ton of real estate for me.. (Especially when Scott Pilgrim is only a couple hundred MB..)
Re: Does the size (GB) of a game effect whether you will buy it?
Yes it does. If I see it be too big I rather buy something else. I usually buy my pc games with Steam BTW. I don't worry much about it in normal media. Unless it's something outrageous like 30 GB
Thanks everyone...
Re: Does the size (GB) of a game effect whether you will buy it?
Yeah, just DL'd the Shank demo -- was amazed it took up that much space.
I don't think it would keep me from buying it though. Although, I am on a 60GB machine and it might fill up.
On Steam, I will uninstall some games if I need more space, but I don't think I've ever factored it into the buying process.

I installed a 500GB hard drive in my PS3, so space won't be a problem for a long time. In fact, I've been trying to put a bunch of stuff onto the drive to justify that space. Although, with the PSjailbreak/PSgroove exploit being released, I think I should stop for now.

This is part of the reason I don't play games on my PC.

Re: Does the size (GB) of a game effect whether you will buy it?
got 1TB space on my PC and only about 300GB free
I usually reserve about 250GB for games and 250+GB for ROMS
hard-drives are dirt-cheap these days (even I can afford one), so I don't think storage-space is much of a problem
1TB external costs about 100Euro (can probably be found cheaper)
btw. Age of Conan's fighting, etc. kicks ass, but lack of players and bugs drag it down to being mediocre

I never worry about space concerns. My main HDD is 500 GB, and that drive just has my music and games (and I might shift the music off). My storage drive is 2 TB. As for my consoles, my 360's main use of space is installed discs, and I delete those when I'm done with a game (the only games I reply have small installs, as they're Cave shmups). My PS3 has the 60 GB HDD and I've still got a good amount free.

I only have a 2 gig flash drive in my 360, so just demos and saves there for me. I have about a terabyte worth of drives on my PC, so other than uninstalling games when done I don't worry about it on there, no.

I did the same. I'm still wondering if I'll need that much. Qriocity was just announced though. Maybe that'll require a lot of space.lisalover1 wrote:I installed a 500GB hard drive in my PS3, so space won't be a problem for a long time.
