NEO GEO CD S-video question

Post by HCK »

So I got lucky and picked up a Neo Geo CDZ with a BUNCH of accessories and games and stuff at a local Hard Off here in Japan for a grand total of $107.

But for the life of me I can't seem to get an S-video cord to plug into the S-video port in back. It almost seems like something's blocking it. I don't want to force it and break something, and I've used different cords, checked the pins, checked the port, and everything seems to be OK.

Anybody have any experience with this sort of problem? Any help out there?

All of the NGCD models had standard s-video ports. There is probably either a pin bent with the cords you've tried (not uncommon), or maybe somebody snapped off part of a pin inside the jack. But, there shouldn't be a reason for a standard s-video cord to not fit

Remember you have to match up all the pins with all the holes in the jack and sometimes you have to just put a little force into it.

Also, make sure there aren't any broken pins from previous cables in the plug.

I looked again... no pins broken off in the system... tried both ends of a new S-video cable; won't go in. I'm afraid if I push too hard I'll break something. It seems like it's just a little too big! I've been playing various consoles for 20 years using s-video and what have you, and have never had a problem like this. I'm at a loss.

I'm no A/V expert and it's hard to tell for sure, but it kind of looks like the circular metal piece that surrounds the port might be off-center. The space between the metal piece and the inner plastic circle looks small on the bottom than the top.

If it's truly screwed up, there are people who will replace the port for you. But you will probably have to ship it off to do that.

Can't see the pic as your account is set to private and I'm not about to join flickr.

Just attach it to your post or use the Img button above your post box when typing to link it straight from the site.

Yeah, the bottom of the s-video port is bent up (or in) a little bit. Or so it looks.

Get a small flat blade screwdriver (the little precision kind) and put it back in place until the connector fits.
