Hey guys. I know this post is better suited on Atari Age (it actually is there), but I'm proud of myself and need to show off.
I just finished coding my first Atari 2600 game. Keep in mind I didn't make this in ASM, I made it in a BASIC language called Batari Basic, so it was drastically easier to learn.
But anyway, what I made was a Berzerk deathmatch I named "Berzerk Blitz". It's two players only, and isn't very impressive, but I made it more for the practice and learning the programming language.
On the title screen, you can press select once for the second playfield (currently, there's nothing that tells you you selected the second playfield). If you press it again you will go back to the first on. If you press the fire button you will start the game.
The difficulty switches determine if running into the wall hurts you or not. The control is the same as Berzerk.
Once a player has been hit 8 times, he loses and it goes to the game over screen. If you press reset you will go back to the title screen.
If any of you actually care to try it out, you can download it from my forum post on Atari Age, but make sure you get the newest version, which would be towards the bottom of the page (version 2.0)

Hopefully, I will make more games (better, of course) using Batari Basic, and maybe eventually learn the real programming language for the 2600.

No rules were broken. If anything, posts like this ought to be celebrated because they show there's still life in these games. Congratulations on your first homebrew 2600 game and keep up the good work!
Are you planning on revisiting this project to implement a screen telling us which stage players will compete in?

Playing it, I just recently realized that not saying what stage is a bigger flaw than I once thought. I will probably go back and add something. I only have less than 200 bytes left to work with, so it might end up just being a number at the bottom of the screen.

Good start! I suspect that the first gen fans and are in the minority here, so it's always pleasing to see fun being had with a 2600.

Do you actually want me to make a YT video? I can, if you were serious about wanting one, but should it just be gameplay footage?d123456 wrote:youtube video or it never happened!
Or was that a joke? If you actually thought it was fake, you can download the game and play it on an emulator.
