so I finally got a modded Wii, hence I am planning on (gradually) moving all my emulation to the Wii, from the Xbox1
questions are:
how good does it emulate MAME, I couldn't get Metal Slug 5 to work, which was kind of disappointing. so compared to my Xbox1
Will I be able to play Daggerfall (DOS, req. 16MB RAM)
is there any snowballs chance in hell that I could be able of modifying a port to use my NES Advantage?
the current Amiga/C64/Spectrum emulators are... not so good
no HD support for the Amiga, even-though there's a directory for them?
how often does these update? I require to use my C-stick on the nunchuck and my trigger-finger on the wii-mote
how well does the "Classic Controller /Pro" handle with old NES/SNES/MD games, etc? in terms of OldSkool "feeling" of the controller and general responsiveness in the games?
other than that, I've actually started playing Megaman 1 and find it to be very enjoyable with the Wii-mote turned side-ways
:edit
SCUMMVM has got the be the one improvement, which impressed me the most, compared to Xbox1... that and GBA emulation

the sideways Wiimote does make a rather comfortable NES controller.Lord_Santa wrote:

I was actually surprised as I played through Excitebike on the Wii yesterdaynoiseredux wrote:the sideways Wiimote does make a rather comfortable NES controller.Lord_Santa wrote:

I usually play it on the NES with the Advantage, but this felt substantially like a NES controller
thumbs up for Nintendo's ability to keep it adaptable to NES games!

if you can use GCN homebrew emulators, then you should be able to get a RetroPort to use your NES Advantage.

Re: time to box the Xbox?
The Wii port of MAME is called SDL MAME and it's a bit rudimentary at this point, doesn't have great compatibility. There's a pretty decent Neo Geo port, but it's also not great.
I don't think there are any homebrews that don't support the GC controller so anything that can plug in there will work (i.e. controller adapters like the RetroPort)
And for any and all Wii homebrew related things check out wiibrew.org. And definitely install the Homebrew Browser, it's a great way to keep up on homebrew applications.

Re: time to box the Xbox?
FCE Ultra GX, Genesis Plus, Hugo-Wii, SMSPlus, Snes9x GX, Neopop Wii, and Visual Boy Advance GX all work great.
i've just started messing with SDL MAME Wii. it's pretty cool, got to play the old Simpsons, tmnt and xmen arcade games, but i haven't been able to run a lot of shmups that i got off underground-gamer..
the list of supported roms can be found here: http://www.toadking.com/wiimame-0.4.txt
if anyone has a pack of roms that they put together to use on their Wii they would like to share, I'd be very grateful! especially 90's shootemups and beatemups

Re: time to box the Xbox?
Hmm, I'd say no for the following reasons:
1. Xbox outputs 720p or 1080i (Wii only does 480P)
2. CoinOps (Mame) is exceptional for Xbox. Mostly everything plays up until the late 90s 3D games
3. The other emulators are fantastic, especially the Madmab edition ones
4. HD, unlimited storage
5. Can been scored for $25 or less

Re: time to box the Xbox?
Like people have already pointed out they both have their advantages..... My personal opinion is that both the Wii and Xbox deserve a rightful place on the shelf. If space is an issue put the Wii in the living room and put the Xbox in the gamer room or bedroom!

Re: time to box the Xbox?
thanks for all the replies, guys
fortunately? for me, I only have an old Back-projector screen, hence I've no need for HD and the likes =)
guess, however that it seems like the Xbox1 will stay, since I like to play MAME games from time to time (that and I can run Amiga Workbench off of it)
great, great news to hear that I should be able to use my NES Advantage
ever since getting it, every game I play without it just feel sub-par
I'll get cracking on checking out the homebrew community and let y'all know if I find anything interesting to share

Re: time to box the Xbox?
got everything up and runnin'
guess I'll use the Xbox to emulate Amiga, PC, C-64, Spectrum, SegaCD and MAME
on the other hand, NES, SNES, MegaDrive, GB/C, GBA, Master System games run perfectly fine on the Wii
I invested in a Wii Classic Controller and I gotta say... it's the best controller of this generation
at first I was thinking about the Wii Classic Controller Pro, but it resembles the PS2 controller too much (which I don't like)
this controller feels as if though focus is on the D-Pad and the analogue sticks are secondary
it's a true little marvel
